Honestly, I got interested in medicine at an early age. Initially, I wanted to be a pediatrician. But then I've always liked working with my hands. When I got into medical school, I realized orthopedics was an area where I could make an immediate difference. You are not necessarily saving people's lives, but you really can change the quality of their life by giving them an ability to walk pain-free. I found that was so rewarding that I decided to do that. I was in the army. So for a while I was a general orthopedist and I got to work all over the body, which was enjoyable, but I really like doing hip and knee replacements.
