Provided by YP.comMy home was severely damaged by a water leak while I was out of town and I hired Carl Medlin of Medlin Construction to do the reconstruction. He told me he was president of the Home Builders Assoc. of Western Kentucky, was deacon of his church and was a volunteer fireman as well. He said he admired the fact that I had adopted two special needs children and that he couldn't do that but what he could do was to rebuild us a home we would be proud of and that he could do it in 6-8 weeks. We discussed that the downstairs bathroom needed to be handicapped accessible for my son. He said this job would be done on trust and offered no contract, proof of insurance or references. I found out later he obtained no permits. He was given insurance checks totaling $93,893.06 in advance.
The job has been a nightmare from the beginning. The people hired to do the job were not qualified and huge mistakes were made throughout. My kids and I spent 8 months in a hotel room and then were forced to move back into the house with it only about 1/2 complete when the insurance company just couldn't extend coverage on the room any longer. It is now 11 months later and there is still a huge hole where my downstairs bathroom and closets should be. Many things are incomplete or need to be redone several after multiple attempts.
Nothing was drawn up and planned ahead of time so many things don't fit well or are not centered such as toilets, the upstairs sink and light fixtures. The upstairs tub was installed incorrectly and is unsound. Walls were not put up plumb.
Mr. Medlin does not monitor the job on site and frequently does not take my phone calls. He even refuses to accept registered mail. The last time I was able to get him here to see what needed to be done and told him again that the bathroom was my priority he actually laughed in my face! He said on several occasions that he wasn't going to lose money on this job and as of late has decided that I am not to be consulted on fixtures, tub, shower head, cabinets, etc. He is making all those decisions.
He seems to believe that since I don't have funds to hire an attorney that there is nothing I can do.
We'll see.
