I would highly recommend getting/rescuing a dog elsewhere. When we first considered getting a dog from Best Pet we saw the poor reviews but ignored them. So, we went to Best Pet anyway and when we mentioned that we were considering a dog one of the employees (more like salesman) told us information that differed greatly once we actually purchased the dog. He said we could get nails trimmed monthly, that the pup had only one more set of shots to get and it would cost about $30 dollars, that a trainer would visit with us and we could get a free private training session, and we would get 3 free visits to the vet. He has so far been incorrect about all but the nail trimming, but the job was done so poorly we are now trimming her nails ourselves. The trainer called us 2 months after we've had her (we've obviously had to trial-and-error train on our own) and what we thought was a free training session was actually a free estimate for future training sessions. When we went to their vet to get her shots done, the vet charged us over $250. Since the visit is not actually at a vet office in a private screening room but in the middle of the pet store, we couldn't even ask him what we were being charged for. And even still, she had two more sets of shots, not one. Needless to say, we will not be going back to that vet. I would never recommend them for their honesty and service, but our pup is healthy and well (except she's missing her dewclaws because some monster decided dogs look better without them. Now she has big ugly dark scars on her legs). For that, one star.

Please do NOT support this pet store! I've worked with animals for many years, and I know what proper care looks like. This store is a disgrace. A well-kept shop full of healthy and properly cared-for animals should not have a bad smell, and Best Pet for You has the most assaulting smell. They'll sometimes leave their front door open in an attempt to air it out, but it does no good.

* The puppies (which must come from a puppy mill - what reputable breeder would sell to a pet store? None.) are kept in small cubes with mesh floors through which their waste can fall. They are dirty and do not get walked. (Red flag - puppy mill!)

* The small animals (bunnies, guinea pigs, etc.) are kept in crowded pens that are filthy, and some bunnies are missing patches of their fur. The pens smell so strongly of urine. I own a rabbit, and a cage that's cleaned regularly will NOT smell at all.

* The reptiles are kept on brown paper, not substrate, which are also covered in reptile feces. Snakes and lizards do not excrete waste nearly as often as, say, a rodent, so for the amount of waste in those cages, it's probably weeks before the cages are cleaned. The lizards are sickly, inactive, and underfed.

* This fish tanks are all filthy and covered with brown slime.

*What few bird cages they have are covered (bottoms, sides, and perches) with bird droppings.

* Their feeders (mice and rats) are kept in the back. An employee took me back there to choose a rat and I almost fell over just because of the smell. The rodents are over-packed into stack-able breeder drawers, and disgusting. In fact, my snake (who is not picky) killed the rat but wouldn't eat it. If that doesn't tell you something, then nothing will!

Before we began to notice the state of this store, my husband and I bought from them a Colombian Red Tail Boa. They claimed someone gave it to them to resell and that was the reason it was underfed. His first shed (a few days after we took him home) came off in a ton of tiny pieces. We literally had to help him get the skin off, little by little. If you know anything about snakes, a healthy snake's old skin will usually come off in one long piece. The state of this snake's shed was proof that he was kept in extremely poor housing conditions. His sheds since living with us have been near-perfect!

I know that the impulse to get a pet is strong and not easily dismissed, but please do not support this place. Consider the benefits of adopting! Maybe if enough people go somewhere else, we can get this place shut down. I don't know who the owner/manager is (for as many times as I've been there, I've never seen one!), but he or she needs to close that store before more animals are affected. Please spread the word!

I am not just an irate customer who had a bad experience. I know what it takes to give an animal proper care, and Best Pet for You does NOT have what it takes, and seems unwilling to learn.
