My wife went by to pay owed balance in cash. Employee told her a balance that was $182 over actual balance, so wife (not knowing) paid amount. I went in later, with proof from AT&T, that payment was $182 too much. But store would not refund the difference. I stood my ground (actually sat in a chair) and insisted on getting OUR (not their) money back and wanted manager to come to the store.

She elected not to interrupt her Saturday evening activity and come to help a customer, but the police sure did come - and they protected and served the corporate entity, rather than a citizen who was who was overcharged and owed money - money that was earmarked for other bills.

After leaving, I called AT&T customer "service." Result? "I'm sorry, but since your wife paid cash, we cannot refund your over payment." "What about sending us a prepaid debit card or check?" "I'm sorry, but we can't do that. But your credit will make next month's bill $1."
