The Post Office zipcode 26287 Parsons, WV is NOT ACCESSIBLE TO PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. WARNING: IF YOU HAVE MOBILITY ISSUES YOU WILL UNLIKELY BE ABLE TO SAFELY ENTER THIS FACILITY. The front entrance of this building has an accessible slope, but that slope stops short of the entrance where there is an inaccessible barrier (step) and a heavy door closer that has caused multiple people to fall trying to enter/exit this building. A formal complaint was filed with the USPS August 2013, to date they have done nothing to resolve this issue as featured on http://www.wdtv.com/wdtv.cfm?f...§ion=Fox-10&item=Parsons-Post-Office-Not-Accessible-For-Handicap-Residents-20843

The USPS District has stated 'they feel there is insufficient need' for that they consider to be 'a voluntary improvement'. 18.6% of West Virginians have a disability. That is the highest incidence in the nation. 687 Tucker County residents reported having serious walking disabilities and/or inability to walk up steps on the last Census American Communities Survey.

If you feel it is unacceptable for the USPS District Office to refuse to make improvements to this location, please file your own complaints with the district rep:

Your voice can help to motivate this establishment to finally remove discriminatory readily removable barriers negatively impacting our citizens lives. Isn't it about time we allow 350 Parson's residents to be able to enter their Post Office?

Wheelchair users cannot safely enter/exit this facility!

This location has a long wheelchair ramp that leads to an illegal readily removable barrier (a tall step and door with improperly adjusted door fast/over powered door-closers that make it impossible for most wheelchair users to safely use this location.

Staff apologized and advised they have asked to have this fixed for years and they multiple customers who are affected by this issue.

August 14th 2013 I filed a formal complaint (case# CA114161697) with the United States Postal Service requesting that they fix the entrance of the Parsons, WV Post Office to remove the physical barrier preventing mobility challenged people from being able to enter the building.

Even after repeated calls, no action has been taken to remove the step/ extend the ramp to eliminate the discriminatory step. I know of wheelchair users whom have fallen out of their chairs trying to access this location.

Very frustrating. Please call USPS'consumer affairs office at phone# 304-561-1073 to request they fix this issue.
