And I've been buying bird food, rabbit food, and dog food from this feed store for the past 12 years if not more. I truly appreciate the great quality in customer service they all have towards all their customers. Now and days it's hard to find this kind of service, and great prices in one store. From the bottom of my heart, I truly appreciate you all for giving my family and I, always an exceptional customer service with an honest smile and welcome, every single time we arrive. Thanks a million Jenn, and all your wonderful staff! There might be more feed stores out there, but seriously, I personally doubt very much they can compare to the great service, and great people at Gulf Tex Feed! God Bless you all, now and always. I've been going to this feedstore since I was young - always a favorite store for me because of the variety and the quality of feeds they've carried. I moved relatively far away after the last manager that I recall bought the shop, a nice lady. She made a point to keep the quality high.



I had decided to switch horse feed brands to Nutrena, which is a very nice feed. I decided to give Gulf Tex a shot since it's far, but not too far for the quality I remember. I'm sorry I did. The first time, they left out an $18 dollar bag of feed (I shouldn't have to check, usually do, but didn't that day because we bought a rabbit). I thought I'd eat the cost until I went back to buy more today and realized it was so expensive. They did give me a spare bag. But they were out of the feed that I bought for horses, and didn't seem to understand what a good replacement should be at all. And then we bought chicken feed. Big mistake! I had seen weevils around the shop and assumed it was because of the heat and that the place has feed spilled absolutely EVERYwhere - very unclean if you're buying bulk, which I don't, so I discounted it. But when I got home, not only did they sell me an opened and retaped bag, but it was absolutely crawling with weevils. I wanted to make sure it wasn't just the outside - when I peeked in the taped area, there were literally 50 weevils stuck on the tape. You can tell by the feed that the weevils had been having a grand old time in the bag, because you can see tiny holes in the granules and pellets if they've been there eating a while. And they had.



I called the feedstore to see what could be done about it. They said if I brought the feed back they'd give me new bags. Then when they realized they had sold me the last 2 bags (never a good sign - that means both the chicken and horse feed were the last bags) that they couldn't replace with another bag.



So what was their advice? "Freeze it - it won't hurt 'em". I feed about 12 pounds of this stuff a day. "You don't think you can fit 10 pounds in your freezer?" Yeah, and have a freezer full of bugs and holey feed that now has been exposed to air and hasn't nutrition left? No thanks! He also tried to convince me that all their feeds were like that - horse, cattle, or otherwise, because of the heat - but I'm sorry - no other feedstore are having that problem, and the other feeds weren't like that or I wouldn't have fed them and come back for more.



My nearly 40 years of experience, including writing poultry articles for magazines, including working in the feed industry, including getting certified in feed design, tell me that he was either ignorant or a liar.



And I don't think he was ignorant.



So Gulf Tex Feed has taken the big slide down. Buy your feed there if you don't mind weevils in "everything" as they've assured me. If you're like me and you know better, pick one of the other feedstores in the area.
