Poalillo Vineyards was established in 1992 by founders Charles and Joyce Poalillo. By that time they had already been amateur winemakers for almost thirty years. They discovered the Paso Robles area when they used to make grape buying trips from southern California to the Paso Robles region. In 1973 they left their successful photography studio in Hollywood and permanently moved to the region. Poalillo Vineyards very first vintage, 1992 Zinfandel, was entered in the Orange County Fair Wine Competition and won a Gold Medal and was named "Best in its Class" for all red wines entered. Since that time, wine buyers have come to recognize Poalillo Vineyards wine as one of the best values in the Paso Robles region. In 2010 Susan and David Garretson, Charles and Joyce's daughter and son-in-law, built a new facility at their home located at 7970 Vineyard Drive in Paso Robles and the wine operation was moved to the new location. Charlie still assists David with winemaking and the family continues the tradition of making handcrafted premium wines presented in a warm and friendly environment. Poalillo Vineyards is a genuine family winemaking operation where the owners and winemaker often man the tasting room. Susan and David successfully transitioned the family wine operations in 2010.
