Dr. VanHeukelom chose family medicine because it empowers him to care for the entire community and patients of all ages. Dr. VanHeukelom credits his brother, Pediatric Hospitalist Jesse VanHeukelom, as being his biggest influence in life. He says that Jesse is a fun and supportive brother as well as a role model in his pursuit and practice of a medical career. Both brothers now practice at Bronson.Dr. VanHeukelom gets excited about coming to work each day knowing will develop and strengthen relationships with his patients and co-workers. He has a special interest in procedures, specifically laceration repair and a variety of dermatology repairs, as well as adolescent and sport medicine. Dr. VanHeukelom and his wife are foster parents and are parents to two adopted children through foster care. In his free time, he enjoys trail running, including ultra-marathon and triathlon races. He also enjoys attending concerts and being outdoors with his wife and children.When I practice medicine, I partner with each patient as a whole, unique person. I enjoy working as a team to create treatment plans that are evidence-based but adapted to meet each patient's needs and lifestyle.
