I had a very unfortunate experience with my cat. I called to schedule an appointment and brought my cat in on 5/15/2015 to the Rantoul Clinic. Dr Walker informed me that Patches was very sick and they would run the blood work that day and he would call me early in the morning on 5/16/15 o talk about the options for care. He did not call in the morning. Therefore, I called and spoke to him. He stated he didn't run any blood work yet because he got busy and would do it today which was 5/16/2015. Dr. Walker stated they started Patches on an intravenous saline solution because he was dehydrated. That was fine with me, but I was very upset because they didn't run the blood work when they said they would and I knew the cat was very ill. I of course wanted treatment started right away. Anyways to make a long story short I picked up Patches on 5/18/15 and they left the port from the IV in his paw. Dr. Walker tried to get it out and was unsuccessful and then stated he was going to leave the port in in case Patches needs fluids again this week. I knew that was a cover story. Anyway, Patches was still very ill and I took him to another vet and they couldn't believe that the PORT was still in Patches. I informed the vet it was placed on 5/15/15. I was informed by my new vet that ports shouldn't be left in for more than 3 days due to a higher risk of infection. The vet tried to remove the port and it was very difficult because the Paxton Vet used tape that attaches to the fur of the animal and not the correct tape for this procedure. Also, they shaved Patches's paw and placed the port on the unshaven part. When the port was removed Patches was screaming and screaming and was in extreme pain. I asked the vet why they would do such a thing. She stated she did not know as they make tape to secures ports WITHOUT adhering to the fur. They finally removed the port and along with the port was all the fur from the tape ripped off my poor kitty. I was sick to my stomach. Patches died a couple of days later. I am not blaming the Paxton Vet Clinic for Patches's death, but it was not helpful that his medical care was DELAYED and the PORT was left in after a safe amount of time. I called the Paxton Vet and relayed the removing PORT saga to the staff. So hopefully another pet is not tortured like this again.
