Dutch Meadows Landscaping began in 1989 with one wheelbarrow, a shovel, a rake and a very determined spirit! Dutch Meadows moved to its current location in 1992 where the 1948 barn was utilized as the main office. In 1996, the Garden Center was established on the first story of the barn in order to support the Landscaping and bring topnotch plant material to the Pella market. We take pride in how much we have grown which allows us to complete our mission. We strive for customer satisfaction by providing quality materials and excellent workmanship in Pella and surrounding areas while maintaining our small town ethics.

  • The Landscaping branch of the business is managed by Mike Nunnikhoven. Under his skilled direction, our crew can make several improvements to your landscape including seeding, retaining walls, patios, water features, and general landscape. There are two seeding seasons in a year. The first begins in the spring from March 15 to early June, and the second is from August 15 to October. Of course, because of the nature of the work, weather is a major factor of the seeding season dates. The Dwarf Fescue blend we use roots deep and tolerates heat, clay, poor soils, and heavy foot traffic. Retaining walls are a great way to increase the flat, usable area of your lawn. Patios can improve your outdoor living space, and a variety of brick colors and shapes are used to create different pattern. And of course, we do general landscaping including water features to enhance the appearance of your home. At the Garden Center managed by Sherryl Nunnikhoven, there is a large selection of trees, shrubs, and perennials. In the spring, fresh annuals are acquired from quality local growers. Also, there are vegetable plants, herbs, and water plants. Hard goods available include mulch in bags or bulk (delivery available), decorative accent stones, native boulders, flagstone, river rock which is used for ground cover in landscape beds (weed barrier recommended), pea gravel, and sand. Also, we have rich black dirt enriched with compost and screened, so it is easier to work with. The Garden Center also has many decorations like patio furniture, pots, trellises, memorial stones, chimes, and much more.
