Provided by YP.comFather and Son M&S Co. (formerly Georgia M&S Co. currently Abusa), 131 South Pemberton Road, Pemberton, NJ 08068, 609-304-2023, Burlington County, is owned and operated by the Georgia Family (Mark, Gloria and others). They were recommended to me by Atlas Van Lines. I paid Father and Son M&S Co. $12,109, to move and store my belongings for 6 years. The agreement was for $75/month storage fees and $75/month insurance costs (I never received a copy of the insurance contract because there never was any insurance-they simply fraudulently pocketed the money). On move in day, I was told by Mark that his company was out of business and I would have to hire another mover (Ron’s M&S Co., 3110 Sylon Road, Hainesport, NJ, 609-261-0177, Burlington County) took over. He never mentioned to me at any time before that that he was going out of business, but continued to cash my checks. In fact, I called the business a few days before move in, only to find the phone was disconnected without a forwarding phone number. I called the post office and they also had no forwarding address, but said they thought that Ron’s M&S Co. had taken over.
The Georgia Family plundered and pillaged my belongings. My furniture and belongings arrived in a disastrous state. The damages were as follows:
1) The dresser and bureau were covered in dust.
2) My bed, sofa bed, comforter, pillows, blankets and linens (which were practically brand new when I put them in storage) had a putrid stench to them (as if they were extensively used by a homeless shelter). The sofa bed had tears and stains on it.
3) A lamp no longer works.
4) Two lampshades have giant stains all around them.
5) The kitchen table arrived in 2 pieces (“I lost the screws, “Mark explained, “you’ll have to buy others. Perhaps, I’ll put it together for you when I get some time and you get the screws.” Actually it was nails. When I got other nails to use, they were apparently a little too big and put 2 dents and a hole in the table when I nailed the table back together.
6) One of the end tables was missing a screw. When I went to put the glass top on with another screw, it shattered into a zillion pieces.
7) The planter was missing a screw. I gave up and gave it to charity.
During the next 8 days, nobody from the Georgia Family called me. I spent the time feverishly opening up all of the boxes and putting my stuff away. I brought the pillows to the laundromat to clean. I washed all of the linens. I used Lysol, Febreeze and Resolve on my sofa bed and mattresses, as well as opened the windows and turned on the air filters full time. Still the stench lingers 4.5 weeks after delivery.
Opening the boxes brought more heartbreak. My artificial flowers and vase were destroyed. 4 of my knick knacks were demolished. My mixer and blender had been brutally used and were completely covered in gunk (I had to put the entire appliance in the super pot scrubber cycle of the dishwasher).
And of course, some of my belongings were missing! These included: 2 large homemade needlepoints (1.5’ X 5.5’ and 3.5’ X 4.5’), which I loved, took about 18 months to complete at about 30 hours/week and cost about $2000 for materials, my food processor and 2 wastebaskets.
When I had finished unpacking and taking inventory of my belongings, I wrote down all of my complaints and called Mark. He laughed and said, “Well, in this business you have to beg, borrow and steal from your customers. I’m out of the moving business now, so there is no way you can collect anything from me. Too bad-you will have to buy a new mattress and sofa bed. I have no idea what happened to your needlepoints, but I do have 2 of your boxes. I forgot to return them to you. Perhaps I will someday when I have time. Although you were an excellent customer and paid on time in full, I really should have charged you more money.”
