The Terrace Inn and 1911 Restaurant is located in the Bay View Association near Petoskey, Michigan near Lake Michigan and Little Traverse Bay. The Inn has been in continuous operation since 1911 with a restaurant on site and more recently a full bar. Bay View is a Summer Chautauqua and part of the National Movement that began in the late 1800's when culture and a holistic approach and bringing it to the people was as important then as it is now. Transportation was by railroad and ferry as cars were not popularly utilized until the 1930's in this area. The Inn has 38 rooms on four stories. The main floor has 5 rooms, the second and third floor 19 rooms and the lower level tea room was converted to a pet friendly apartment in 2014. The Inn must maintain historic preservation guidelines..therefore all windows/glass is original with ropes, dressers are 1910 and original, many iron bed frames are authentic and air conditioners are in the windows except the dining room which has a mini-split unit. Rooms have electric heaters built in the walls and some suites were created from 2 rooms joined together. Wifi has been updated, small LCD TV's added and private bathrooms in all room. Suites have jetted tubs, mini-frig, microwave, and coffeemakers.

If you love history, charm and desire a one of a kind place, the Terrace Inn is for you. This is not your cookie cutter inn but an establishment that brings over 100 years of history to their guests. Everything about the Terrace Inn is delightful. The rooms, the dining experience, the view from the terrace and its' location.

This was a really special experience! Upon arrival, we met the owner, who was gracious and inviting. Then we were seated on the front veranda, and our server, Fred, took very good care of us. We had the planked whitefish dinner followed by the best homemade cherry pie I have ever had. And YES! The cherries were actually local, having been picked before the drought. If you ever have dinner at the Terrace Inn in Petoskey, be sure to try the pie made by Cynthia!

My husband and I have been gue...

My husband and I have been guests of Terrace Inn about twice a year for many years. Friends in nearby Harbor Springs brought Bay View to our attention. We used to rent one of the charming Victorian homes in Bay View when our children were young. Now we traditionally celebrate Valentine’s weekend at Terrace Inn each February and return again in the summer. In the winter, we enjoy the fireplace in the first floor living room. Our last visit was Memorial Day weekend. The dining room and veranda are charming. Although we were accustomed to the breakfast buffet in the past, the new breakfast service was a delightful surprise. Each guest receives a voucher towards breakfast. It is easy to stay within the value of the voucher. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. We also tried the Sunday pizza night. The custom pizza was wonderful. It was nice to be able to order a cocktail too. (In years past, no liquor was available.)

The beds are particularly comfortable. We always choose a “cottage room” since Victorian era ammenities are not something we have at home. Our friends have stayed in and enjoyed the updated deluxe rooms. It is also a wedding venue. On staff, Art married our friends at a nearby venue and we all stayed at Terrace Inn.

Each room is decorated differently and is very clean. We usually ask for a room on the side where a small view of Little Traverse Bay can be seen. Free WIFI is available, but can be sporadic. Of course, this is not too important if you’re there for a relaxing getaway.

It is a pleasant walk to the private beach and Petoskey. A bike path is also nearby.

The innkeepers Mo and Patty, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Wonderful old 100+-year-old hotel with all the quirkiness of an old building with the modern amenities of the 21st century. The innkeepers, Moe and Patty, have done a wonderful job with the rooms ~ no two are alike. Their restaurant serves excellent food (we particularly like the Planked Whitefish) and the service is superb.

We'll be back!!

Thanks Terrace Inn...we had a wonderful time! The staff & owners made my family feel so welcome. Traveling with small children can be stressful, but with the whirlpool tub, cozy fireplace and friendly faces, you can't help but relax there. We will definitely be back - it's so close to the ski places for winter, and fun on the Bay View Beach in the summer. Oh, and the food there is great - especially the pizza!
