Though the office is nice and ...

Though the office is nice and the staff is generally friendly, the business practices here are completely unethical and dishonest. I took my children in for a cleaning and an exam. Dr. Bain recommended what seemed like a surprisingly large amount of work, but he made a good case as to why it was the best treatment option long term and didn't pressure me too heavily to get the work done. My daughter's appointment was first and all seemed to go well as far as the procedure and her general level of comfort during the procedure.

The cleaning and initial exam had taken place almost two months prior to the follow-up work and in that time, I asked that the procedures and pricing be pre-approved with my insurance. The office is in network with my insurance provider, who has since assured me that the company has agreed to their fee schedule in advance and that no changes have been made to my insurance plan. When the amount of work was initially recommended, I was told that the quote was an estimate and that it may change a "little" before the work was actually done. A week before the procedure I asked the dentist's office if the quote had been approved with the insurance company, they assured me that it had. After my daughter got the work done, I paid the amount due, which was slightly higher than the initial quote, but not by much. Prior to paying though, I (again) asked the check-out person if the insurance company had agreed to pay all of the portion listed for them on the bill and that this amount was the final amount I would need to pay. She assured me that it was and that the procedure had been "pre-approved". About a month later I received a rather large bill from Dr. Bain's office and when I say large, it was an additional 40% on top of what I had already paid. I talked to my insurance company and basically, the difference was because Dr. Bain's office charged above the fee schedule they had agreed to as "fair and reasonable". I contacted Dr. Bain's office, which tried to tell me that they had told me that the procedure was "pre-approved", which is apparently different than getting the fees "pre-determined" even though I had never asked about whether or not the procedures had been approved, only if the price was correct. The conversation I had with their billing person was extremely cordial and professional though and she told me she would call me back after speaking with Dr. Bain to determine what to do about the matter, so we ended it with all future appointments kept (my daughter had more work to be done, as did my son, and both of their biannual cleanings had already been scheduled). I have since cancelled all future appointments with the office as they were unable to resolve the issue as they, according to the voicemail they left me, apparently believe that their work is of such a high quality that they should be able to charge above what is determined as fair and reasonable and apparently they believe the should be able to do this after multiple people at their office had assured me that the amount quoted had been finalized and approved prior to the work being performed.

In short, their billing practices are completely dishonest and I'm starting to wonder if the amount of work they recommended had more to do with how much money they could get and not what was best for my children. Absolutely appalling.

Traumatized my son...horrible experience!

Dr. Bain should not be working with children.

I took my 5 yr old son in to have a couple of cavities filled at the same time. When we arrived, the nurses were very friendly and wonderful to work with. Then Dr. Bain came into the room and told my son to open up. When he wouldn't, Dr.Bain raised his voice at him and continued telling him to open up while trying to pull his mouth open. My son was obviously scared and Dr. Bain continued getting more agitated. He finally looked at me and said that I needed to discipline him and teach him that it's not alright to disobey. Then he told us we were wasting his time and he would not be able to continue. So we left, nothing physically accomplished but my son is now mentally petrified of dentists. I will say we went to Dr. Kelsey Bookmeyer and were so impressed. They have what it takes to work with children, not Dr. Bain.

Poor skills

My child has seen Dr Bain in Pflugerville. Our experience with him as a doctor was not pleasant. The staff in the back office are very helpful and concerning like a parent to a child. The girls in the back office help smooth over the problems that Dr Bain caused because he wouldn't listen to the parent of the child. The young lady at the front desk was amazing I think her name was Susie.
