Dr. Gertrude A. Barber National Institute is a nonprofit organization, offering education and support services to children, adults and families with developmental disabilities. Established in 1952, the institute has helped more than 3,000 people and has branches in Erie, Philadelphia and Bridgeville, Pa. It offers a complete range of services, including early intervention for infants and toddlers, inclusive preschool, autism center of excellence, approved private school, job training and placement, residential options, such as community group homes, lifesharing and supported living programs, in-home services, specialized therapies and behavioral therapy, creative arts program and a retirement center. Other services include developmental services, adult mental health partial services, community and facility-based vocational training, adult education and literacy and day support programs.
