Bethesda Project, established in 1979 and based in Philadelphia, offers care to underprivileged and abandoned people. The organization has more than six residences serving over 140 men and women. Volunteers prepare meals, visit with residents, take them shopping and to doctor's appointments and read to residents. Groups or individuals assist the residency s staff with cleaning, painting, clothing room and meal preparation and serving. They also prepare, deliver and serve a weekend breakfast, lunch or dinner for up to 250 shelter guests each month. Additionally, college interns work with veteran staff for a semester of in-service training. A variety of events are also arranged by Bethesda, including Sunday breakfast, Bethesda Project auction and party and Bethesda Project all-staff retreat.
