Provided by YP.comExperience in fish/aquatic and small animal department:
The first time I went to buy 3 Indian Glass Fish and a few ghost shrimp. This teenager who helped me with my fish was talking the whole time how he hated fish and don't even consider them animals but things! I asked if he felt bad about the tiny enclosure of the betta fish and the fact that a few betta fish that were dying. He full on said no and that he could care less if any of them were alive! While helping me get my ghost shrimp, he tossed a few on the floor. I rushed to pick them up and throw them back in the tank and he tried to stop me and tell me that it doesn't matter and that they're "very cheap" and back to how he hated fish and sea creatures. Why do you have this guy working in your fish department!!!!
Side note, the guy didn't know the difference between Siamese Algae Eater and the Chinese Algae Eater which is a HUGE difference! A Chinese Algae Eater can get up to 11 INCHES and can get extremely territorial and can start killing off other fish. A Siamese Algae Eater only gets up to 4-5 inches and are extremely peaceful.
Trip number 2 I went back to get 3 more glass fish and some ghost fish (realized my tank was big enough to suit a few more. (also always try to get a school of 6+ Indian Glass Fish, they do very well in "schools" and start getting a little territorial in pairs). Another teenager helped me. With the Indian Glass Fish, he took the biggest net he had and netted all the Indian Glass Fish and the Hatchet Fish and then proceeded to USE HIS FINGERS TO PICK THE CERTAIN FISH OUT BY THEIR FINS. By their fins!! And when bagging the fish he just tossed them in. I watched in horror as all my fish and shrimp were tossed and swirled in the current.
Side note from Trip 2 - My friend and I witnessed a gerbil claw out of the glass tank for minutes straight with his eyes closed. It was the saddest sight ever. And the poor ferrets were jumping the entire time trying to get out.
Monster Pets is the only place around that carry Indian Glass Fish - and I wish they sold some un-dyed ones!!! Please work on bettering your selection of employees and hire some true animal lovers!!! Please stop overstocking the tanks, work on clearer water, and better employees! I will not shop here again.

Provided by YP.comThis skinny girl in the fish aisle has helped me a lot when it comes to filtering my tank and cycling it. She's the only polite one in tere. I've been going to her for the last two years. However, everyone else in that store is a little rude and doesn't really know what they are talking about. I wouldn't shop here unless you really have to. And te lady who tries to sell you earthborn is ignorant

Provided by YP.comI posted something on the other yelp site but I see more people use this so I'll repost mine.
I was very pleased with this place. I wanted to start a tank up and decided to come here to look and a beautiful young lady named Stephanie helped me. She explained the different types of fish and which ones could go together, etc. She was very easy to talk to and didn't make me feel stupid when I asked questions. When I asked about my filter she recommended a different one and at the end of the trip, talked me into buying a new 60 dollar one. She is a great girl to have work here and I recommend Monster Pets for anything you need. Just make sure you stick with a budget because this young lady can have you buying everything with the bash of her eyelashes.

Provided by YP.comAbsolutley terrible...where did they get these terrible groomers at. They screwed my dog up so bad and even nicked him under his arm pit, and didn't even tell me. My dog is a basic yorkie which is one of the easier cuts for a groomer so them leaving uneven hair and a chopped face is a joke. Stay farrrrrrr away is my advice

Provided by YPmobileI stopped in Monster Pets store on S Columbus blvd Philadelphia PA and was shopping. I was looking at dog collars hanging on a display rack. I saw something slide down on the floor but was sure what it was so I kept looking up at the collars. I noticed a store employee next to me talking to another customer. A minute or so later he says to me (in a macho aggressive tone as he picked some item up from the floor)"oh you you're not going to pick that up?" I said,I didn't really see what it was. He said (again in this nasty aggressive tone) "yes you did!" "you saw it". I then felt insulted so I said to him "well it's not my job to pick it up, its yours, you work here" He then said "well you don't have to shop here" so I said what are you going to kick me out the store for not picking up something that fell? I then said let me speak to your manager. He said (with and arrogant cocky attitude) "I am the manager" I said then whats your corporate office number? He said (with this condescending tone)"Oh my family owns the business" then walks to the counter saying "here let me spell my name so you get it right" He writes his name on a piece of napkin as I wait...then has the nerve to say to me "tell them I prefer if you dont shop in our store" I say, fine..I don't want to shop in a store where you treat customers like this! I WILL NEVER ENTER THAT STORE OR ANY OTHERS OWNED BY THIS COMPANY! This Chris Fischuk is a real arrogant cocky person who thinks he can use the fact that his family owns the business as right to treat customers anyway he chooses. Beware of this guy...VERY RUDE AND POMPOUS! WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN!

Provided by YPmobileThey locked the doors and closed the store 10 minutes early and would not let customers in. Someone was guarding the doors only letting customers out. There's a reason why stores have open to close hours! Poor customer experience, lazy employees, and bad store management!!!

Provided by YP.comI've never been a huge fan of this store. Everything is overpriced, but I guess that happens. They also used to sell [puppy mill] puppies and I used to always, always see them sick, conjunctivitis in their eyes and sitting in their own waste and that drove me crazy. However, sometimes I end up at this store looking for something in particular.
Today, I was looking for a dog life-jacket since my dog will be joining me on some boats this memorial day weekend.
When asked if they carried any dog life jackets, the employee (darker skinned, tattooed right arm, super short hair) scoffed out loud, as in laughed in my face and said, "NO! Dogs can swim."
SO CAN HUMANS BUT WE STILL NEED LIFE JACKETS SOMETIMES! I started to casually explain that no, my dog can't swim and even if he could, sometimes tides and currents and rocks are no match for swimming skills- just as with any child or adult or bear.... whatever. She didn't seem intent on listening to me, turned her back and unloaded a box.
Besides the obvious and gratuitous rudeness that came with this encounter, I was a bit disgusted by what a completely uneducated and worthless scope of animal knowledge this pet store worker had. There are far more dogs that CAN'T swim, than those that can, in reality. Here's a small blurb from the discovery channel if you don't believe me : http://animal.discovery.…
And again, swimming won't save your dog from everything. Which is EXACTLY why I found dog life vests, in 7 sizes, made by at least 2 different companies a the Petsmart a couple miles away.

Provided by YP.comMy family bought a german shepherd from Monster. She is a great fun loving dog, but when we first got her she had Kennel Cough so badly she almost didn't make it. After talking with my vet about it, I learned that 99% of dogs that come from a pet store will have some kind of disease or health concern (whether it be earmites to surgeries) because like it or not those puppies are coming from mills. If you get one that doesn't have an issue, then you're very lucky. That $1000 puppy sure might look cute and you decide you can afford it, but just think about the thousands you might have to spend on vet bills. Because once you leave that store with your brand new puppy, you're already in love and not likely to "trade it in" for a new one. For all those who left great reviews, I'm sure your dog is a wonderful addition to your home, like our Jenny. But I'm also sure that the mothers those pups left behind will never get a chance to be a wonderful addition to someones home. There is no denying that. I'm not here to bash. Just here to inform. Don't be ignorant and do your homework. Don't shop. Adopt.

Provided by YP.comMattiamlm - We hope that people will stop and think about the dog that will be killed at the shelter down the street if they purchase a puppy from Monster Pets.
It's great news that your puppy is healthy, but that is not the case for every animal that has been purchased from Monster Pets.
Please visit www.BoycottMonsterPets.com for info about AKC registration not being what it seems.
