St. Joseph's Preparatory School, founded in 1851, is a Catholic, urban, college preparatory school in the Jesuit tradition. It offers educational programs in religious studies, English, math, computer science, history, science, fine arts and classics and modern languages. It also offers elective art courses in sculpture, painting, ceramics and illustration. Its journalism students produce their own newspaper, The Nose, in cooperation with the Philadelphia Inquirer. The school has athletic teams in cross country, football, soccer, basketball, bowling, indoor track, swimming, wrestling, baseball, golf, lacrosse and tennis. St. Joseph's Preparatory School is located in Philadelphia. It is fully accredited by the Pennsylvania State Department of Public Instruction and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The school is also an active member of the Jesuit Secondary Education Association, National Catholic Education Association, Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools and the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools.
