Nicholas J. Nelson, MD, is a neurologist in the Neurocritical Care Program and an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Barrow Neurological Institute. He is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Nelson specializes in the treatment of patients with life-threatening neurological conditions, such as intracranial hemorrhage, status epilepticus, and encephalitis. He is a member of the Neurocritical Care Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Nelson earned his medical degree from Jagiellonian University Medical College in Kraków, Poland. He completed both his neurology residency and a neurocritical care fellowship at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. Dr. Nelson’s research interests include disorders of consciousness, prevention of secondary brain injury following cardiac arrest, and multimodality patient monitoring in the intensive care unit.
