Papago Golf Course reopened December 6, 2008 after a complete restoration. Friends old and new will be treated to a scenic and challenging golf experience, in a convenient, central location within 15 minutes of downtown Phoenix and Sky Harbor Airport. The course will provide spectacular views of Phoenix from its unique, strategic setting at the base of Papago Buttes. Papago Golf Course is a "must play" for Phoenix-area residents and visitors to the Valley of the Sun alike. The restoration project was completed under direction of golf course architect and former Augusta National superintendent William "Billy" Fuller, and includes re-turfing of all the greens, tees, fairways and rough; the installation of a new irrigation system; removal of trees to improve sight lines and views; and reshaping and adding of bunkers. Tee boxes have been lengthened at holes 1, 9 and 11, adding nearly 350 yards to the course, which will play anywhere from 5,300 yards to nearly 7,400 yards from five sets of tees.
