Foothill Elementary School, located in Pittsburg, Calif., is a Title I school that provides educational services to more than 700 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. It is a part of the Pittsburg Unified School District, which has a population of nearly 9,500 students in over 10 schools. Foothill Elementary School also provides food, transportation and health care services to the students. It maintains various organizations for parents involvement, including a parent-staff association, school site council, the English Learner Advisory Committee and Dual Immersion Parents Advisory Board, which focuses attention on a bilingual program for Spanish and English. Foothill Elementary School organizes a variety of cocurricular activities, such as multicultural literacy nights, math and science assemblies, spring carnivals, student performances, book fairs, and Latino heritage and African-American history assemblies.
