We used Mastro Ice twice in the past two years. The first time, they were great and went above and beyond to help us with our event and made a great product.

Then the second time I had called a month ahead of time and placed my order. About a week before our event, I called to double check everything was on schedule. They informed me that because of hot weather things were taking too long to freeze and they could no longer make our pieces. I'm not sure when they were going to call me to tell me that, but it obviously put us in a really bad position for our event that was happening in a few days and it was a ton of work trying to find a replacement.

From our experience it seems hit or miss if they are going to do a good job.

mastros is a mass mistake

I got to my wedding a week ago and there was no Ice Sculpture. I filled out a form and placed a $50 deposit to reserve an ice sculpture for my wedding months ago. At the time I did not know what I wanted and said I would call back a couple weeks prior to the wedding date. My fiancée talked to Mr. Mastro 2 weeks before the wedding and got final pricing. We called 10 days before the wedding and he wasn’t available but spoke to a representative at his office on the phone. We gave her our information and informed her of our choice of sculpture and told her if there was any problems to please call us back. There was no call back so we assumed obviously that there was no problem. We left a check at the Wedding Hall for the Coordinator to give to Mastro when the sculpture was delivered on our wedding day. When we arrived at the hall out of our Limo we had family members who knew we were expecting the sculpture telling us it never came. That was our welcome to the hall.

We called Mastos the next business day and never got a call back. We called again a week later and finally got Mr. Mastro on the phone. He was less then apologetic. He said he never got the message from the lady we spoke to. The person who answered he said was his book keeper and she did not relay the message to him. He said he did nothing wrong and arrogantly said he was not returning the $50 dollars. He felt he "lived up to his end of the bargain”. Keep in mind he produced no sculpture.

You see as a child my father took me to a brunch buffet every Sunday. They had an ice sculpture there that I loved and always looked forward to seeing. I said as a child I would have one at my wedding. As an adult I remembered this and wanted an ice sculpture as a reminder of my child hood. I don’t really care about the $50 but I will never get my wedding back. This was a small part of my wedding, obviously, but it did have meaning for me. Mastro's poor internal communication stole this from me. Then after the fact they refused to admit any wrong doing and feel they operated appropriately. They can have my $50 dollars and their stubbornness about not admitting they were wrong. However, they have an irate person who is a business owner that will surely share this story with many more people. That is bad business especially since they incurred no cost except the form I filled out months ago. I would not recommend doing business with people that have poor business sense and even worse business ethics.
