Incredible!

I just started here about a month ago, and I love it! Not only is this the BEST and most challenging workout around, it is FUN! The instructors are very motivating and highly professional. The class is diverse in age and fitness level, yet it appears that everyone is able to maximize their workout! I NEVER write reviews, but this place is worth the time and effort. Go here, have fun, get fit!

top-notch instruction, comfortable atmosphere.

I started at this martial arts academy with no prior experience or exposure to martial arts, other than seeing 'The Karate Kid I&II' and watching Jennifer Lopez in some movie a few years ago. I was skeptical of the whole karate-school chain mentality that seems to pervade the martial arts community here in the US, which is one of the reasons I was hesitant -- so, I did what any good academic does -- my research.

What I found has kept me dedicated and growing for the past three years. The excellence begins with the owner -- Josh -- who is one of the most humble "champs" I have ever witnessed. Josh is internationally known, and has won numerous trophies, although he never mentions it unless asked. He truly "walks the walk" -- he trains regularly in other disciplines, and trains with his students of all ages every day, in every class.

If you are thinking of joining either kick boxing or the martial arts classes, I highly recommend that you come in and watch him interact with the kids -- you see the respect and patience that he models to everyone, as well as his gentle way of pushing you and your family beyond what you think your self-imposed limitations are.

In addition, it is probably the most diverse school/gym I have ever been to -- young, old, really fit, overweight & out of shape, people whose native language is Spanish or German -- you name it. Everyone belongs here -- it is just that kind of atmosphere; people come to train.

I also recommend that you "start where you are" -- as with any discipline -- this is something that you grow with. Don't compare yourself to the others -- there is always someone here who knows less than you do, and there is always someone who knows more.

The kick boxing and the martial arts is fitness with a purpose, more of "functional" fitness than being on a treadmill to nowhere, or lifting weights repetitively. This challenges your mind, and you get out of it what you put into it. Some days I have it to give, other days I don't -- but it is always OK. You keep going.

One more side note -- I have met the most interesting, kind people here -- it really draws a diverse crowd with good hearts and minds. A nice bonus, if you are looking at something you want to do regularly. Sometimes it is just seeing the other people that motivates me, when I don't feel like working out. And the time flies by.

Exceptional.

Painful, But Amazing!

If you are truly looking for an amazing workout, Ryer's Martial Arts Academy cardio kickboxing is the way to go. Yes, I was in some pain the next day (you work muscle you didn't even know you had!), but it was very much worth it! The instructor is very helpful and motivating; his goal is to make you get the best possible workout that you can!

great for martial arts training

I can't speak for the rest of the classes, but the adult martial arts instruction is awesome. Very practical and informative training to prepare one for situations that may arise. Mr. Ryer is truly a talented individual and puts a lot of time and effort into his endeavors.

The classes at this studio are amazing. The instructors are very knowledgable and personable and the studio is always clean. The owner and his wife are great people, and the owner is always doing things to improve his business. He has a true passion for martial arts, and genuinely strives to help all of his students acheive their goals.

When does an "OUCH" feel good?

I enrolled in cardio kickboxing in november of last year. I never expected to see the progress that I have. Since then I've lost almost 30 pounds and my fitness has greatly increased.

The instructors are wonderful and very motivating. The owner is young, but definitly knows what he's doing. I've never seen a more put together, professionally run and clean fitness area as I have at Ryer Academy. It's great to see young people with positive goals as well as professional business ethics. I would recommend trying out this class.

Phenomenal intstructors who have a tremendous passion for what they do! They are extremely motivating, friendly and talented. Additionally, it is certainly the cleanest & most modern facility I have seen in the area. Your first class is also free so it is a great way to try it out!
