I recently moved to Pocatello and want to share my experience of bringing my car to the Rocky Mountain Auto Care Center. I have an older VW Golf, which I’ve maintained faithfully for the past 10 years. Being new to the area, I was really nervous about taking my car somewhere. For the past few days, I noticed a gas smell coming in through my AC vent and the idle speed fluctuating between 1000 and 2000 RPM without touching the gas pedal. Knowing my car pretty intimately, I knew that something wasn’t right. Not wanting to wait until something happened where I’d be stranded without a vehicle, I did a quick internet search for a mechanic close to ISU. I chose to call the Rocky Mountain Auto Care Center. I dropped my car off there in the morning before work, and dropped my key in the slot. As most of you can probably relate, I braced myself for the inevitable call saying “Ah, you’re going to need X, and it’s going to cost X amount (generally at LEAST 200 + dollars)”. You can imagine my surprise and delight, when Jason called and told me that he couldn’t find anything wrong with my car (he had checked for fuel leaks) and that the smell of gas and strange idling behavior was probably due to someone (me) leaving the oil cap off last time I added oil to my car. Oil had leaked out and was burning out on the engine. Long story short, he put the cover back on and the issue is solved. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have found an HONEST mechanic in my new town. He could have easily made up some story about a gasket, fuel pump or something else and charged me whatever and I would have been none the wiser. This experience really proves that there are still trustworthy, decent people out there. To top off the experience, when I went to pick up my car and pay the $20 fee (he could charge MUCH more), the power was out in Pocatello and he gave me my car key, explained to me what he checked on my car and told me to come back tomorrow to pay him. WOW – if you’re looking to get your car repaired in Pocatello – please go here, you won’t be disappointed!
