New Garden Chinese Restaurant is a nice little spot in Pontiac where the prices are reasonable. I have been a patron of this restaurant throughout the years ever since 2003. I work in the area and have brought several co-workers to eat here; I even have brought family and friends. The food is always nice and hot and just about anything you get is very tasty. The owners are generally friendly when they are serving you as well as the wait staff. However, I did notice a change when I would bring my husband in who is of a different race with me, everyone's demeanor changed. I just ignored it at first but then we ate there twice after this and I realized what it really was. This last visit our egg rolls were burnt, we could barely eat them and the water tasted funny, like gross tap water. When the owner’s wife would bring us food etc., we were gushingly nice with the thank yous and please but no positive response. I watched how the other guests were treated - to nice conversations and smiles. I didn’t want to stay any longer so we paid and left. The owner’s wife asked if there was anything wrong but I just wanted to go. I called her on the phone to explain why we had left explaining that she had been rude to us, asking her why she had treated me this way when I am a returning customer. All she said was you are crazy and that was the end of the conversation. I will not return.
