Carver Center, established in 1943, acts as a community resource for Port Chester, N.Y., by providing educational programs and services to help children and youth maximize their potential for growth and self-sufficiency. Its after school program for children of ages 6- to 12-years provides daily homework assistance to support the children in meeting their academic responsibilities. The organization also organizes field trips that include professional baseball games, local museums, movies, bowling, ice-skating, the Hudson River Museum and New Roc City arcade. Its summer camp program is a seven-week day camp experience for children of ages 6 through 12, where they participate in daily on-site recreational activities, such as arts and crafts, board games, group activities and swimming. Through its Gateway program, the organization provides parenting skills assistance for teens and transportation assistance for teen mothers. To seniors, it offers assistance with food and food drives. Carver Center is an affiliate of the local United Way.
