I went to Ben's two days ago to look for a couch. I felt the salesman was pressuring me into buying things that I needed time to think about. He convinced me to go with layaway. Yes, I should have said no but he was persistent.
I ended up putting a couch on layaway. Yesterday I found it at a lower price at another store. When I called Ben's to get my $100 down payment refunded, the manager was very unprofessional. He said he would sue the other store for offering a lower price and wanted to know all the details on the other couch, e.g., merchandise number. Now, how silly is that to think you can sue another business for offering lower prices? Maybe it was a deceptive tactic on his part?
No matter the reason for wanting a refund of my deposit, the fact that the store manager refused to refund all or most of it screams bad customer service. What if I simply can't afford the furniture? I am a disabled senior living off of $882 a month social security. $100 is a big chunk of my budget.
The store manager hung up the phone with no resolution offered. I will never do business with Ben's again. I want to warn others about their lack of customer service and unprofessional demeanor. When I have the money, I will purchase the couch at the other store and will never shop at Ben's again.

Provided by YP.comI hate businesses that mislead the American consumer. Unfortunately, Ben's Furniture Store in Port Huron is one of them. They advertise sales at 1/2 off, in reality there is no sale at all. They deceive the consumer by using fancy words like:MSRP while stores do not sell their product at MSRP prices to begin with. They're simply playing games by making us believe that we are getting a sale or bargain. If the prices do not change---then there isn't a sale!
In speaking with the manager, owner about my complaint, I'm told that "all businesses do this!" Shame on you, and all the others! Why does everyone have to operate their business deceptively?
At Ben's we do our best to give our customers straight forward pricing. The retail or MSRP prices are set by the manufacturers and are given as a baseline for what the furniture should sell for. At Ben's we base all our Discounts and Sale prices off of Retail or MSRP to give us the ability to put our entire store on Sale. Ben's also guarantees the lowest price on any product we carry so if you find a cheaper price anywhere we will beat it by up to 10%. We apologize if anyone finds our pricing structure confusing and no way are we trying to mislead or be deceptive to our customers. We will do anything within reason to resolve issues regarding our stores. The person who posted the comment was offered the product at an extra discount to resolve the issue, but did not take advantage.
