I believe that studying music is essential to a well-rounded education, developing the intellect, emotions, physical coordination and self-discipline. In particular, I think that piano study is among the finest extracurricular activities parents can provide for their children, and that adults can pursue for themselves.Piano students learn to use their small muscles to execute precise, intricate movements. Through careful study of music, attention to details and preparation for performance, students develop concentration, perseverance, poise, the ability to perform under pressure, and many other personal qualities that benefit them for years to come, no matter their eventual vocation. I am interested in giving my students comprehensive skills to play the piano with inspiration, enjoyment, musical understanding, physical ease and confidence. I try to engage and maintain my students interest with a variety of repertoire and musical styles, building on their strengths while challenging them to reach their full potential through thoughtful and disciplined practice. Though my goal isnt to produce concert pianists, my students have been accepted to prestigious music festivals and schools, developed professional careers in music, and have won top prizes in competitions, including the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, the Suffolk Piano Teachers Foundation Competition, the Concert Festival Auditions, and have been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall. My students consistently receive the "Superior+" and "Superior" ratings in the National Guild Auditions. Students participating in the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program have garnered the "High Honors with Distinction" rating and have received the Awards of Excellence for the highest scores at both the Center and State levels. I also feel it is important for students to share their musical gifts, and encourage public service through performance. Each spring, my students play their Guild repertoire for the residents at a senior assisted living center as a way of bringing joy to others through music. Many students also play for events such as choral and orchestra concerts, school assemblies and talent shows. They have also participated in chamber music and theory classes at the Stony Brook University Pre-College Program.I am passionate about teaching, and I enjoy seeing my students grow as musicians and people. Imparting the gift of music through piano lessons is a true privilege!
