I called them to show me how to manually fire up my fireplace since I lost the remote control. Two guys came and inspected it. They stated it could not be fired up manually, didn't work anymore and I needed a new fireplace $2500 - $3000 and then they collected $99 for the service.

After they left I googled it turned on 2 buttons on "on" and fired it up....works perfectly.

I called them and asked for a refund but they refused and stated it is 'unsafe' to operate it without a remote control.

I called the manufacturer and the gas company and was told it didn't matter which way I fire it up.

Maybe their "service call" is just a way to sell you a new fireplace? or whatever they can get out of a customer.
