Gary's Auto Service performed work on my vehicle without quoting me or getting my permission to do the work that they did. I wound up being charged $462 when Gary himself told me over the phone that the suspected issue was a $35 part that would take 10 minutes to put in, and that a quick diagnostic beforehand would confirm that was the issue.

When I talked to Gary on the phone, he seemed certain my issue was related to the crankshaft position sensor I'd just replaced myself after an OBD code came up for it. Again on the phone, we both agreed it probably wasn't the fuel pump, since I'd already replaced the fuel filter myself and could clearly hear the pump running. And for what it's worth he seemed friendly enough, and squeezed me in on short notice. He asked me to have my car towed in on the weekend after he made room, and that he would call on Tuesday after he got a chance to look it over.

So tell me, why didn't he call me before doing the work? Or ask me to come in? Why is the fuel pump the FIRST thing he replaced? Why did it take him two hours when I hadn't even put the back seat back in? It's four screws, 3 quick connections, and it pops right out. I did it myself in under an hour to replace the filter! It's all one unit and he told me they struggled to get it put back together and I just laughed a little and said yeah I had a hard time with it too, reminding them I'd just done the filter myself. But again, we agreed it WASN'T THE PUMP on the phone.

Then it took them another hour of labor to just go ahead and replace the CKPS again (which, again, I did myself in LESS than 10 minutes), and that fixed it. I will commend Gary for turning a $35 part and what SHOULD have been a 15 minute diagnostic to figure out the sensor wasn't working, and 15 minutes tops installation, into a $462 job.

He let my car sit for 2 days before texting me to say he had lost my number. What a mess. Take your money elsewhere, because you definitely don't get what you pay for here.

Friendly old fashioned service

My first visit to Gary's revealed that I needed a part (a brake controller connector) that Jeep hadn't released yet. Gary charged me the absolute minimum. When the part became available he popped it in, again with the minimum charge. He was friendly and easy to work with.
