My 15-year-old ShihTzu developed dry eye syndrome which resulted having a hole in her cornea along with cataracts in both eyes. She was treated with various medications which were not responding to her condition. I was encouraged to get a second opinion with Dr. Neaderland (an ophthalmologist) in Norwalk. The prognosis was grim and surgery would be too risky at her age of 15+. Several medications were prescribed to be inserted into both eyes 3 x day. My "Meggie" would not allow me to do this. As a result, I brought her to the Portland Hospital at 8:30, 12:30 and 5:30 daily and to the Pieper/Olson Vet in Middletown on Saturday and Sunday. The staff at the Portland Vets loved and cared for her as if she were their own. The technicians were so gentle and kind, making me feel more relaxed with her lifelong serious condition. After several months Meggie could no longer tolerate the treatments and was put to rest. God bless all staff in Portland for their love and kindness.
