The Portland Social Services Division strives to provide quality programs to low-income Portland residents that encourage dignity, self-respect and self-reliance in the transition from public assistance to self-sufficiency. It is a department of The Health and Human Services Department, which also consists of the Public Health Division; The Barron Center, a city-owned long-term care facility; and the Office of Elder Affairs. It provides a variety of health care services to residents, such as immunizations, dental, an epidemiology program, a free clinic, HIV and AIDS support, homeless health care, health nutrition, a school oral health program and other testing. Its human services include the Bell Street Transitional Home, disability assistance, employment assistance, general assistance, immigrant and refugee services and representative payee services. The Portland Social Services Division is located in Portland, Maine.
