Established in 1983, National Indian Child Welfare Association is a private, nonprofit membership organization that provides a range of child abuse and neglect prevention programs for American Indian children and families. It offers consortium partnership, community mental health services, Indian child welfare, cultural competency training and customary adoption programs. The organization additionally provides technical assistance for children with mental illnesses and developmental disabilities. It offers project design, program planning, evaluation, on-site training, research and advocacy services. The organization maintains a library that stocks books, articles and movies, as well as provides curriculum-related materials and a variety of leisure reading options for children. It has partnerships with the Center for Mental Health Services, Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, American Humane Association and Child Welfare Information Gateway.
