Extremely Honest People! Had the opportunity to take advantage of me and Didn't!

I have purchased a fair bit of coins and bullion from Paul the last few years. He has a wonderful staff. I am not a numismatist and just buy silver and gold for the metal content. Knowing this, Paul is always quick to find me the best deal that day for me. He explains the calculations of rate and weight and thereby assures me that I am getting what I came in for. I have never waited to be greeted and taken care of!(Not sure why the dolt below that complained even logged in. His comment is so far out of place it deserved a reply and support for this great little company.)

I had a bunch of old coins from my late mother-in-law: a real hodgepodge. Wasn't sure if they were worth anything, or a lot! Took them in to The Coin Cottage, James sat down with me right away and went through them coin by coin. He explained exactly what he was doing, how he was sorting them, how he was figuring the value. In the end we had 3 heaps: worth only cash value (so I should just take to my bank); worth giving to the Grand-kids to play with; and the stack James made me an offer to buy. It was a really fair offer and much more than I expected. I kept a few coins that have family relevance (my father-in-law's effects from WWII) and happily sold the rest to James & Coin Cottage, for a LOT more than I expected. Most of all I appreciated the EXCELLENT customer service and integrity of a family-owned business. If I find any more coin stashes, off to Coin Cottage I will go!

i read some of the comments, i saw one was negative and so i wanted to give mine. i have bough some very large amounts of mainly silver bullion. they were the best i have ever found. the people were professional and became friends. they always did their very best to help people even when they had a line. the prices were what brought me there, the owner would beat anyone and always kept his word. i have tried many other dealers, i know of another in southern oregon who is good too. but coin cottage is the place to go in the portland area.

What can I say...? GREAT customer service, educational, fair prices, honest, love their jobs, never felt rushed or pressured... just a great place to do business!! I would recommend them without reservation. A special bunch of KUDDOS to James... made my visit stress-free and shared so much information. I won't take my business anywhere else!!!

Best place ever to shop. I was purchasing coins on-line and then waiting 3 months for delivery. At The Coin Cottage, I walk right in and am greeted by name, complete my transaction within 5 minutes and walk out with my purchase. I love this place and will remain a loyal customer.Joanne

they are all family and treat you as if you were family too! They try to get to know everyone on a first name basis and truly care about the satisfaction of their customers!!!

First time i waited 1/2 hour and left as they were "helping" one customer. 2nd time they were very condescending and the girl looking at the stuff had to repeatedly ask her co-workers questions as she was apparently clueless. I had to constantly point out things because of their know-it-all tudes only to be treated like a clueless 2 year-old even though what i alluded to was correct and true.Perhaps its part of the biz, but they ask for id. Be nice if they posted a sign stating that instead of wasting my time since i dont have valid id. Unless u wanted to be treated like it's such a hassle for them to actually do their work and their ridiculous condescending nature, i would not recommend this place to my worst enemy...perhaps that's being too nice.

Professional and friendly service. I felt very comfortable there and will defintely continue doing business there. You can really learn a lot about history from a little coin and they have the background. This is a good hobby for children if they like to collect things.Seriously.

On a late Saturday afternoon and late for a birthday party we fortunately discovered the Coin Cottage in Multnomah Village in Portland Oregon. We were visiting from out of town and wanted to give silver as a gift.We called the store and got directions to their location. We found the store and although they were closing the young sales person was patient, professional and treated us as if we were spending thousands of dollars instead of a few.We will visit the Coin Cottage when we are in the Portland, Oregon area again with a wish list. Great Store!

Couldn't recommend a nicer or more friendly and helpful place to learn about and buy coins. They're open, honest and up front without an attitude. Well worth utilizing to buy or sell your coins.

This year I began collecting coins in earnest. I have been to several shops in the area, but Coin Cottage has become "home base" for me. The staff is consistently courteous, helpful, and professional. They have been more than fair with me, and are just good folks!

It is so difficult to know where to sell or buy coins, especially if you've never done it before; but when I read the reviews on this site, I decided to go for it. My husband and I drove 80 miles just to meet the people who own The Coin Cottage. We were so pleased with the way Philip explained how they value each coin; he was up front and above board. He was patient with all our questions, and we actually had fun learning about old coins, silver certificates, and 2 dollar bills! This business is owned by people who clearly love what they do...and it shows. If I ever need such a service again, I'll never have to waste my precious time cruising the internet. I trust The Coin Cottage for their professionalism, fairness, and customer care.

The staff at "The Coin Cottage" has been extremely helpful to me. I have found them to be impeccably honest, patient and thorough in the valuation and purchase of both gold and silver coins. I highly recommend them!!!

I was hopeful that I would find a place that was proficient in evaluating old European coins, but, after entering the establishment and getting within several feet of a rather rotund middle-aged man who appeared to be the proprietor, I had to leave. This individual's body odor was so intense I couldn't stay in the room. It's possible that it was his breath, but since he seemed unkempt and sweaty, I think that a shower would have done the trick...Perhaps I was just there on a bad day, but anyone who does business outside a home office should certainly have the sense to attend to their personal hygiene.

Very rude! I had some 90% silver coins that I wanted to sell. They made me wait an extraordinarily long time to discuss what coinage I had. Once i finally got to see someone they were offering me well below spot price, as compared to all the other coin shops around town. I wanted a little time to consider the low price that they were offering and they rolled their eyes and essentially wanted me to leave. I have never been treated so poorly as a customer. At one point I felt as though my "Race" made them feel as if I stole the coins that my grandfather left for me before he died. I would advise anyone wanting to buy or sell coins or bullion to avoid Coin Cottage.
