The Houck Funeral Home was founded in Boyertown in the late 1800's by Harrison Houck. In 1908, the Houck's purchased the Jeremiah Gilbert Funeral Home at Washington and Chestnut Streets in Pottstown. The business was continued by Herbert R. Houck and his son, Walter E. Houck. Following his service during World War II, Herbert F. Houck had continued the family business in the community. The Funeral Home was relocated from its original location on Washington and Chestnut Streets to its present location at Charlotte and Grace Streets in 1965. The present facility was designed and built specifically as a funeral home. Herbert, his wife Marlene and daughter Doreen Spencer, continued to provide caring, quality service to the greater Pottstown area. The funeral home then changed ownership to Russell J. Gofus and his wife, Amber Dinnocenti Gofus. They have taken on the responsibility of continuing the tradition that the Houck family had long provided.Currently in 2008 the funeral home will be celebrating its 100 years of tradition to Pottstown area families.
