Positives: Leblanc Payless is a full service grocery only chain. It does not have any of the shopping extras of a Wal-mart. It is dedicated entirely to your everyday grocery needs. The store is always immaculate, and the air is fresh without any strange odors.
What does this mean for the average person. It means when you go, you will never be faced with monstrous crowds buying clothing, radios, tv, etc. It is relaxed self-paced grocery shopping experience that makes you want to actually grocery shop. This location was remodeled in the past couple years. The remodeling is great and the grocery layout is easy to navigate and use.
Any of the employees I have ever approached know exactly where something is that you are looking for, if they happen to carry those types of items of course.
The have some of the freshest meat around and very well packaged and processed. The way they process their ground meats is fairly different. I don't know what type of grinding technique they use, but when you cook the meat it doesn't ball all up on you, and falls apart evenly. Most of the other stores I go to the meat is processed somehow differently and just doesn't fall apart and spread and cook evenly the same way.
They have their own in-store bakery, meat processing, sushi, hot and cold deli. Meats, salads, ribs, breads, pastries, chicken, tuna, potato, macaroni salads...
They even have a fresh flower section as well for those impromptu get well occasions, birthdays, anniversaries...
The checkout lines are rarely every more then 2-4 people deep. If the lines get crowded in almost anyway, another register opens immediately it feels like.
If there is one single thing I like most about the checkout process it is the credit card station. This is the ONLY store I have been in where they have gotten it right. After the very first item the cashier swipes, you can swipe your credit card/debit card, select the option of debit or credit and have everything entered, SIGN your signature, and ready to press yes to the final total BEFORE the cashier even finishes. The signature area is very easy to get to without the worry of pressing other buttons. BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO.
Cons: Prices are a little bit higher overall for groceries then your other chain grocery stores.
There are no cart corrals outside. While most people probably don't even care about this type of thing I certainly do. I don't want a cart getting blown around by the wind and dinging a vehicle or being soaking wet and placing groceries into a soaking wet cart. Since they do not have a cart corral I will do one of two things. Walk it back into the store, or if there are other carts nearby, I will combine 2-4 stray carts to stop them from moving about. I really like the idea I seen at another grocery chain (Aldi), Each cart has a chain on it that secures it to the next cart in front of it. You place a quarter into the socket and it releases the chain from the cart in front of it.
When you are done grocery shopping you have two choices bring the cart back to the store and stick the chain back into the next cart thus releasing the quarter to take back into your possession, or leaving the cart outside in the rain and wind and losing your quarter.
Those are my only two real cons to Leblancs.
