Dr. Castelein earned his dental degree from Loyola University, Chicago College of Dental Surgery in 1966. While at Loyola, he was an Omicron Kappa Upsilon student and received the C.N. Johnson Award, the highest clinical award given to a deserving senior dental student.Dr. Castelein joined the U.S. Navy and served a 13-month tour in Vietnam with Marines. In the summer of 1968, Dr. Castelein joined the faculty of Northwestern University, teaching junior and senior dental students, and then entered a two year residency at Northwestern in 1970. Upon graduation, Dr. Castelein started his practice in Princeton in July of 1972. He has served as the program chair and president of the Illinois Valley Dental Society. In January of 1983, Dr. he was granted full membership in the Midwest Component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. He served in many capacities in the Angle Society, including the role of president of the national organization. In March of 1989, Dr. Castelein completed Phase III to earn board certification by The American Board of Orthodontics. In 2007, Dr. Castelein was selected by the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists representative by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) to serve as director for an eight year term.
