“Park At Your Own Risk.”

When I do something that costs my employer money, I get mad at myself. Also, I feel embarrassed and totally stupid, like a rookie all over again. Mostly because the cost is %99 from making stupid, rookie mistakes. However, I’m fairly good about taking ownership and applying corrective action. It’s part of the learning experience and builds character. Yet, as many of us know, there’s some business owners that don’t practice these principals. When these attitudes result in an act of negligence and cost my employer money, I feel even worse. That’s the case with Vita Clean of Prosser, WA. The owner is very negligent in the condition of his businesses’ parking lots. At the Prosser location, it’s always icy in winter. At the CA location, I believe he’s getting into Algae farming in all the standing water that never drains. Many us customers know this and drive carefully on his properties. Especially at night in Prosser where lighting was never installed. One thing that’s never anticipated is hidden potholes deep enough to get stuck in requiring a towing service. That’s what happened to me, or more accurately, to my Boss, who ended up Paying $323 to have the company vehicle pulled about 20 feet out of a hole, at night, after hours. Could this cost have been prevented? Yes. I asked if I could get pulled out by the official Vita Clean Yard Truck, but the employees on duty said their boss wouldn’t allow this. The area could have been marked with cones or even a sign that says: “Hey Y’all!! There’s a Big Ol’ Hole Here!” Something, even the smallest effort, to let even the dumbest among us to avoid this problem. But no, this wasn’t done either. Why? Because I found out that ½ the lot, the ½ that I’ve been parking since 2008, isn’t considered part of the Vita Clean family unit. I can understand potholes on the road. That’s on me and whatever State authority is responsible for road maintenance. When it’s in a parking lot? The responsibility should be on the owner of that property or some policy that declares: “Enter At Your Own Risk.” After the truck recovery, I left and came back the next day to get my cleaned trailer. Upon arriving I see one of fellow Freight Re-Location Specialists stuck in the same hole. This time, during daylight. He too said that hole can’t be seen and there’s no warnings. I got a tow chain and used the buddy system. Too bad Vita Clean wasn’t our buddy for this, considering it’s their lot.

After all this why give even 2 stars? Because at least the employees get it when it comes to customer service. They always do whatever they can to help in any situation. That is, within the confines of a boss who constantly watches them on camera. So, this review should in no way reflect on them.

Lastly, are there any entrepreneurs out there? Consider a Food-Grade Tank Washing business located in Oregon or Washington State along the I-5 and/or I-82 corridors within about 100-200 miles from Prosser. You’ll find a lot of customers who are wanting some alternate choices. Do some research, it’ll be worth your time.
