The medical intensive care unit (MICU) at Rhode Island Hospital is directed and staffed by the hospital's division of pulmonary and critical care medicine. The MICU is an 18-bed unit located on the seventh floor of the hospital. Patients are admitted to the MICU for specialized service, including mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring and kidney transplant therapies. 24-hour care and monitoring is provided by physicians and critical care nurses.
