i have adopted 2 dogs and 1 ca...

i have adopted 2 dogs and 1 cat from here. there new facility is beautiful! my latest addition is Uma. even though all are heaven sent , Uma is definitly special! she is so full of love that it makes your heart melt. her best friend happens to be our cat that we got at the shelter too. Lillian. she was featured in the front page of our town , on the day i got her. she had a big sign on her cage saying that , please mind my manners , i bite. well, what cat doesnt! turns out she must have been a ferral cat but let me tell you, them two, could not live without each other. i just want to also say that the staff is very friendly there and is always willing to chat with you about any concerns. if i had to have a complaint, it would be that if u find an animal, and want to put it on hold , like maybe 25 dollars, just over night, then the fee can go to help the shelter. cause sometimes you know when a dog or a cat is meant for u but u need to get things either situated at home or need your spouse to see it. that would be my only thing. and it will make people happy, and help the shelter at the same time since it would be non-refundable. hopefully they will listen to this idea and maybe take this idea and run with it! but please, always adopt from your local shelter! laila sierp

Animal Welfare League of Charl...

Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, Florida is a non-profit organization which serves also as the Charlotte County animal "shelter". They will have, at times, like any other shelter, to euthanize very old, terminally sick/injured animals. However, this "shelter" is killing a great number of healthy animals under what they call "feral, wild, unable to adjust, unable to survive, O.K. to euthanize, aggressive, etc". To give you an idea, on a usual month the county will bring in around 300 animals (cats, dogs and a few others) and charge the county for around 220 kills.

On July 1st, 2011, eight seven animals (mostly cats and a few dogs) were slaughtered on that day alone. Another 65 will be killed during the month of July. These animals have been in this "shelter" prior to June 30, 2011 - some for months, even one for a year. (Reasons as stated above and some with the treatable disease called "calicivirus"). According to their July 2011 invoice to the county, they are supposed to have 565 animals in the "shelter" Considering that they have 85 cages for dogs and 150 for cats, it does make one wonder how the animals are sheltered (cages can accept only one animal at the time). I was advised that they used collapsible cages and crates (??) to hold the overage. Of about 270 animals taken there in July, the county was billed for 166 killed. The killing was less than usual since they had already killed 152 animals and billed the county. Most of the

animals are killed in consecutive shelter numbers under a specific reason ( i.e. number 1000 thru 1010 - aggressive).

This "shelter" is the shame of this county and its middle name must be changed to "slaughterhouse".
