We called about a slow and clogged toilet. Plumber snaked a long distance and opened up the clog. They recommend we need a better commode but the one they had on the truck was a $500 Kohler. We will buy one on our own and get it installed. The charge was $150.

We could hear a leak in the walls in our master bathroom shower, so we called

Ray's Plumbing to come out and see if they could repair the leak. We had the

water shut off when they got here, so they turned it back on and listened around

for the leak. They told us that they agreed that there was a leak, but the

detection equipment was not available until later. They told us fixing the leak

would likely cost $800-900, or we could have a re-pipe done for $5000. They left

and said that they would call when the detection equipment was available. They

charged $59 for the service call and $92 for "diagnostics". I understand and

expected the service charge, but to charge $92 dollars to tell me what I told

them over the phone before they came out (i.e. I have a leak) and call it

"diagnostics" is unacceptable and a rip-off. We called the owner to complain, but

he just told us that his guy was here for an hour and that is the cost. Most of

the time he was here, he was trying to track down the detection equipment. I

would not use or recommend this plumber.

UPDATE – Dave at Ray’s plumbing sent us a letter in reference to this review. The letter stated that they had stopped the charge to our credit card. They basically explained that there was a misunderstanding of the events that took place and they apologized for things not being explained properly. We are pleased that the company took the time and effort to rectify the situation and send the letter. I have updated my rating accordingly. I believe that issues will arise for all companies no matter what the industry, but the sign of a good company is one that is concerned about customer satisfaction and makes the effort to provide it when an issue occurs. Thanks, Dave.

Been Arround

When I moved to Port Charlotte 30 years ago Ray's Plumbing had already been here for 23 years. I use their service and my friends use their service. A "live" person answers the phone 24 hours a day....they return phone calls...and, they arrive when they say they will. They probably are not the least expensive plumbing service comany in town, but I've always found that you get what you pay for.Their service technicians are "badged" and uniformed and always leave the area they work in cleaner than when they arrived. On the rare occasion when they've had to return for either a labor or material warranty, they respond promply and enthusiastically.I like the fact they are socially responsible and support charitable organizations in the area. As a pet owner I'm especially happy to see they support the Animal Welfare League.
