Provided by YP.comIn 2006 I needed a new engine for my Ford F250. I took it to Engine Experts on Hwy70. The owner, Jimmy Boyd, explained the process and gave me a comprehensive tour of his shop. Everything looked well organized and professional. Jimmy answered any questions I had and gave me a full rundown of the process and costs for my repairs as well as what I should expect when the work was completed.
In 2023 I need a new engine for my daughter's 2012 Scion TC. Matt (shop manager) was helpful and communicative. Jimmy Mac did repairs on both vehicles which gave me confidence in the work done. I appreciate that throughout the years, Engine Experts has maintained a high level of consistency and professionalism.

Provided by YP.comGreat experience with everyone at Engine Experts. I was dealing with an engine misfire and had been given an outrageous estimate from a dealership and called to get a second opinion. They confirmed my suspicions about the dealer's estimate so I had my car towed to them.
They made necessary repairs, test drove the car multiple times to make sure there were no issues and had me back on the road much sooner than anticipated.
They literally saved me thousands of dollars, and gained a customer for life!

Provided by YP.comThe staff here is outstanding. I’ve called them several times with questions and concerns about the engine that was installed and always got a fast response. In most cases they asked me to bring the truck in as soon as possible. No appointments had to be made. Service done the same day while I waited on almost every issue. Can’t say enough good things about this shop, Jimmy, Matt and Jacob.

Provided by YP.comWhen my used Jeep needed a new engine, I was referred to Engine Experts by another auto shop. The process of removing and installing a new or rebuilt engine is a specialty that most mechanics only occasionally perform. At Engine Experts, that is their primary business.
Matt went over their entire process and scheduled me for a required shop tour before my vehicle was brought in. I met the people who would be working on my Jeep, I saw the methods they used and learned how involved replacing an engine actually is. Each mechanic has a specialty and performs their part of the work.
When my Jeep was in the bay with the old engine removed, Matt once again took me into the shop and explained the condition of the accessory parts. He gave me options on which parts to replace and which could be reused. He explained the impact of labor now versus labor in the future. When they were done, I felt comfortable that they had created a reliable vehicle that I could depend on for many years.
I highly recommend them for any major engine work. Engine replacement is not inexpensive, but their open communication builds confidence that the customer is not only aware of what is wrong, but understands what is necessary to fix it. Finding an auto shop you can trust is hard. Now that we have an established relationship, I will return to them for all my mechanical needs.

Provided by YP.comEngine Experts are AWESOME! I recently had my engine replaced in my 2010 F150 and I am thoroughly satisfied. After searching for an engine replacement shop, I found Engine Experts on the internet. After reading several reviews I felt comfortable contacting them. Matt took my call and information and said he would research my request and call me back. How many times had I heard that before and never received a call back. True to his word the next day Matt called and found an engine and then proceeded to tell me about their procedure. I made my first tour of their shop and was impressed. I met the shop mechanics and left with the feeling that I could put my trust in this group of people. Communication is their goal and believe me, they are not afraid to be transparent in every way. The second tour was after the rebuilt engine was mounted on a stand and my motor was resting on a pallet in the garage. I met Jimmy Boyd and I can see where Matt picks up his communication skills. We looked over the new engine and discussed which parts were recommended to be replaced or reinstalled. I was handed a number of parts with bearings and belts to inspect. I can’t remember the last time a shop let me look at a defective part that they said needed to be replacing. We agreed on what would need to be replaced and the following week my truck was ready to go. Promises made – promises kept. Transparency and great communication! When leaving I was told that I am now “part of their family” and I truly believe this. Honesty – communication and quality make Engine Experts top notch in my book.

Provided by YP.comI had a 2013 Subaru WRX with a blown motor. Coming from NY with no trusted mechanic to rely on, I needed help fast, but more importantly, I needed someone I can trust! I called the Engine Experts and got in contact with the owner, Jimmy Boyd. Jimmy learned of my situation and took an invested interest in helping me out. He put aside other projects to help me get back on the road ASAP. I arrived at Engine Experts and took a personal tour of the facility, hosted by Jimmy himself, and learned about his values and the quality of the workmanship and attention to detail himself and all his hand-picked employee’s exhibit. After spending time with Jimmy, I was taken back a bit. I wasn't expecting the commitment, honesty and personal relationship that developed as a result. Jimmy is all about the relationships he builds with every customer, making sure things are done the right way and you're treated with respect. If you're lucky enough to become one of Jimmy's customers and treat him with respect, he will consistently go out his way to make sure things are done right and you're treated with respect.
Jimmy went through all the parts and connections with me to assure the car would continue to perform and last a long time going forward. He installed a transplanted Japanese engine in half the time I expected, and in the end, my car accelerated quicker and ran better than ever before. I couldn't be happier in how the car turned out and ultimately, I found someone I could trust and rely on for a lifetime.

Provided by YP.comMy 1994 Ford F-150 4X4 needed a new engine. i called several garages in Raleigh for estimates. Engine Experts gave me the best estimate. My whole experience with Jimmy and his shop was outstanding. He took me on a tour of the shop, introduced me to his crew, and introduced me to the tech that would be working on my truck. The engine replacement was done in a time frame that was promised. My truck now runs better than i ever imagined. Straight up , honest, trustworthy.

Provided by YP.comMy chezy cruze was having check engine light issues for about 2 years and eventually my engine was shot after bringing it to other places over that time. Jimmy and his crew at Engine Experts originally found a new engine to replace the old one. After the installation of the new engine 2 months went by and the car was driving like brand new. The check engine light came on again recently and they were the first people I called. The engine had an issue from one of the previous places I went to since it was a part that they did not replace, but that did not stop them from fixing the issue and I was able to get my car back that same day. There is no place I would recommend over this place. Jimmy is very proud of his shop, as he should, because he keeps it clean and well maintained and he would have no issue giving a tour of the place and introducing new people to the crew. All around the entire crew is amazing.

Provided by YP.comI have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V6 engine. The Jeep had less than 100K miles when I thought the engine blew. I had it towed to the Engine Experts for diagnosis. Jimmy’s crew determined that yes, the engine was bad. He quoted me a reasonable price to replace the it with a new remanufactured engine with a 3 year warranty. Once they had the old engine out, he went through part by part what needed to be replaced or what part he could reuse and explained why for each part. Example of the parts replaced – radiator and all hoses, water pump, crank sensor, only one O2 sensor needed replaced, injector rings and new plugs. I also thought there was in transmission issue, but Jimmy stated they saw nothing wrong on the exterior of the transmission and he stated that the tranny’s are German made and he’s never seen one go bad. As it turned out, he was correct. Once the engine was replaced and could be driven, they found the throttle position sensor was flakey, causing the Jeep to drive erratically which felt like a transmission problem. I now have a 4x4 Jeep with a new engine that I would trust driving cross country if I had to. Jimmy and crew are experts as their name states. I can truthfully say that as I’ve worked on engines in the past and have some knowledge of engine repairs. They are very polite as well. Great job “Engine Experts”.

Provided by YP.comHello, im an owner of a "project" 1989 jeep comanche. After being jerked around by 3 other local shops my father found jimmy and his crew. while explaining the problem, jimmy instantly pinpointed the issue. Jimmy went on to show us his shop and introduced us to his staff and right away i noticed how clean his garage is and is maintained. keep in mind this is late friday and i got the call to pick it up monday afternoon. The attention to detail that i noticed is never been seen before. (these guys run tight ship) jimmy and his crew went above and beyond for this task and the value is outstanding!!
Im bringing my work truck to him to get serviced next because i now know that i found the company that i trust. JIMMY IS A STRAIGHT SHOOTER i explained to him that i thought my work trucks oil pan gasket was leaking and he told me that he will clean the area of concern and do a leak test to determine the exact problem. this is reassuring. Since ive been recently "screwed" and over charged by 3 other local mechanics, this was a breath of fresh air and i knew i was in good hands
the jeep hasnt ran better in years and im looking forward to moving forward with james and his team in the near future. i want to add that this is my first time doing a review as i felt the urge to share my great experience with jimmy and company at Engine Experts.

Provided by YP.comI have one of the 2008 Honda Civics that was given a 10 year engine block extended warranty due to possible cracks in the block. My engine block cracked at 11.5 years and 150,000 miles so Honda would not repair it. This Civic has been a great car that we wanted to keep driving so I started looking for a shop to replace the Engine.
I do most of my own car repairs, I know a lot about car repairs but, replacing an engine was beyond my capabilities. There are a lot of shops that claim to replace engines but primarily sell tires, do oil changes and tune ups and brake repairs. I visited 3 different ships. While they have a space where they can replace an engine, it is messy (old engines and parts everywhere) disorganized and understaffed. Engine Experts is different.
Engine Experts primarily replaces engines and does other repairs as time permits. The shop is very clean, very organized, extremely well equipped and staffed and has processes in place to insure that the work is done correctly. Jimmy, the owner, will insist that you take a tour of the shop and you will be impressed. He will give you a firm quote and the only extras you will be charged for are the one that you approve. If a part that has been removed is in bad shape and should be replaced, you will only be charged for the part, not for the labor since is was already removed.
Engine Experts replaced the engine in my Civic with a used, low mileage, engine from a newer model that did not have the engine block issue. My car runs exactly like it used to, everything works, nothing was missed, they even wash it inside and out, my wife says it is cleaner than it has even been.
If you have a car with a major or complicated problem, or even a minor one, take it to Engine Experts, you will be completely satisfied.

Provided by YP.comAbout a year ago i had a 98 civic that was having some serious issues. I took my car to a conventional shop got a quote I was not satisfied with. I was then recommended to check out engine experts. After a bit of hesitation i brought my car to engine experts and met jimmy. WOW these guys don't play! They brought me in showed me around and told me what they are all about. After looking my vehicle over the gave it to me straight. The car was toast and not worth dumping more and more money into. After the civic i purchased a new vehicle and brought it to them. They worked their magic on it and i have never driven a vehicle that felt so tight. Any issues i have i know i can call jimmy have it fixed right up in no time at all. When they are under the hood and see something they will tell you, if you bring it in and think you need one thing but actually its something else they will consult with you before they even touch it. They guys dont bs! As long as these guys are around i will not take my car to anyone else. Super service, honest and straightforward. Thanks jimmy and crew you guys rock!

Provided by YP.comI had my truck towed there with a broken flywheel - not knowing that for sure, but I trusted Jimmy and his team to fix it based on the reviews i read on line while stranded on the road -i had to make a decision and didnt know who to trust. They did the work with factory parts, and 4 years later i'm back having a new engine put in the truck (still running at 354K miles) but its started knocking and needs replacement. I have a lot of respect and trust for this group of professional auto mechanics. They do it right, or wont do it at all and I like that - you know you're getting good work.

Provided by YP.comMy 2002 Ford F150 FX4 lost its oil pressure. It had over 240K miles on it and I bought it used, so I didn’t really know how the engine was treated through the years. Suspected I needed another engine. I started looking for someone to quote me on a new engine. Wasn’t sure where to start, but fate would have it, I ran across Engine Experts when I was looking through the web.
Their website was everything I was looking for, so I gave Jimmy a call. I told him what was going on and I needed a quote to replace my engine. Before quoting me anything he asked if I could bring it by and let him look at the engine to determine if it needed replacing. At that moment, I knew I called the right person for the job.
Jimmy and the guys looked it over and I did need an engine replacement after all. Jimmy said before he gave me a quote, he wanted me to come in for a tour of the shop. He showed me the shop, their quality control processes and explained his philosophy on why they do the things they do.
When removing the old engine, they cleaned and inspected every part that is attached to engine to ensure that those parts are still in good condition before putting them back on new engine. If they find any that do not pass their quality control, Jimmy will call you to come in and review those parts with him.
My truck runs great and I can keep driving it for years to come.
If you seriously like your vehicle and you want to keep it for a few more years and you need an engine or anything else for that matter. I highly recommend calling Jimmy and the guys. It’s a great place, great value for your money and when it’s said and done, a lot cheaper than buying a new vehicle.
Those guys are outstanding. I don’t want anyone else to work on any my vehicles from this point on but Jimmy and his guys.
Thanks Engine Experts!!

Provided by YP.comJimmy and his team have been tremendous in helping to replace an engine in my son's Jeep Cherokee. The engine is running terrific and really appreciate Jimmy's attention to detail. I feel as though I not only got great value but also knew exactly what to watch/listen for to ensure that the engine was performing as it is supposed to. What a great team. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for honest recommendations and repairs at very fair prices. SMH Cary, NC.

RE: 2011 Chevrolet LT AWD
I fled the Raleigh area, because of the approaching Hurricane Florence. I thought the DC area would be a good place to hang out.
On my drive North, I looked at the mileage gauge on my dash, and it just turned 154,000 miles. I remarked to myself, “This is the longest I’ve ever driven a car…and it is still running great”. The car still looks almost new, so I was thinking, “I could keep this car for two or three more years”,…bad thought!
Two days later I found myself in the left hand lane on the DC beltway…8 lanes at rush hour. I was going about 5 mph when the dash warning bell sounded. I pulled off immediately, as the engine had overheated. I didn’t think it was serious…maybe a new thermostat or radiator. I had the car towed to a local Midas Shop near my hotel in Bethesda…of course it was a Friday late, so I had to wait until Saturday for them to diagnose the problem.
Saturday I got a call...a hole in the radiator, a leaking water pump and a blown head gasket. “It will need a new radiator, water pump AND an engine!” Suddenly, I had an estimate of $7,000 to $11,000 to repair the car…more than its current Blue Book value.
I decided to have it shipped to the Raleigh area, so I could research an engine repair shop, and decide on my options.
After reading many reviews on the internet and Yelp, I decided on The Engine Experts in North Raleigh. I had the car towed to their shop. I had to wait a few days, as they are very busy. I met the owner, Jimmy Boyd. He gave me a tour of his shop, and explained their philosophy of customer service and car repair.
They spent several days, trying to confirm the original diagnosis of a blown head gasket. Finally, Jimmy called to give me the great news that the car needed a new radiator and water pump, but not an engine. They could not find a head gasket leak.
I picked up the car about a week later. It runs great.

Provided by YP.comI took my ’05 Jeep Wrangler to Engine Experts to fix a loud squealing problem on start up. I’m a shade tree mechanic and had already pulled the serpentine belt to make sure it wasn’t the alternator, idler pulley, a/c or steering pump. I was out of ideas and feared I needed a new engine. A google search brought me to Jimmy @ Engine Experts. All the reviews looked great so I gave Jimmy a call. I took the Jeep in and Jimmy called me the next morning with the diagnosis. Turned out to be a bad cam sensor making the squeal. When I came to pickup the Jeep they showed me the old part and it definitely was making the noise. Jimmy saved me from having to replace the engine. He’s a stand up, honest guy. He took the time to explain the problem and his charge was reasonable…and definitely much cheaper than a new engine. I got to see his shop and meet the technician’s that worked on my Jeep. Jimmy is my new “go to guy” for automotive problems!

Provided by YP.comI do a lot of my own work and I have a hard time trusting any conventional mechanic shops, including dealerships. I wouldn't call myself a mechanic but I'm often stunned with the lack of knowledge at other shops in the area. Jimmy and his Engine Experts team are anything but conventional - which is exactly what I needed.
Jimmy could have just told me to throw money at the problem, replace the aging motor in my car, or worse but instead, Jimmy and his team took the time to truly analyze a problem that had been plaguing me for over a year and fixed it, only charging me 2 hours of labor.
These are stand-up guys and if you want your car working right the first time for a good value, you have no better option in the Triangle than Engine Experts.
Thank you so much - you have no idea how much getting my car running right means to me.

Provided by YP.comExcellent Customer Service and work quality. Helped us out quickly when one of our work vans went down. They were very upfront about the cost of repairs and communicated with us throughout the entire process. They were there when everyone else simply said " we can't fix that." I highly recommend them!

Provided by YP.comI have been a customer of Jimmy Boyd and Engine Experts for more than ten years and could not be more pleased with my experiences with this company. They have maintained and repaired four different vehicles for me with outstanding results. The mechanics are excellent technicians who have been able to diagnose problems both accurately and quickly then make necessary adjustments or repairs. They always make available the parts that are replaced so I never have any question about whether or not something was actually done. Jimmy is very accommodating and works my car into their busy schedule as soon as possible when I have an issue that needs immediate attention.
The charges for work done are very fair and quite reasonable and they stand behind their work.
The shop area is like no other shop I’ve previously visited. Everything is well organized and sparkling clean. I would feel comfortable sitting down on the floor and eating off it. I have worked in facilities management for many years and never seen a work area as clean, spotless and organized as the Engine Experts shop.
I have great difficulty believing negative reviews about Engine Experts since Jimmy will do everything possible to correct any problem with their work. It is a reality that some issues cannot physically be fixed to an owner’s satisfaction if that person has unreasonable expectations. But my experience has been they will do everything possible to make every situation right.
Jimmy is a straightforward person who tells it like it is. He can be abrupt but is always respectful and truthful. He delivers good service for a fair price.
I only wish I could find service providers in other types of businesses who deliver the results that I’ve received when using Engine Experts!
