South Dakota Department of Transportation, located in Pierre, S.D., is responsible for construction of roads and highways and maintenance of local transportation systems. Additionally, the department issues permits for vehicles entering state of South Dakota and necessary information to travel throughout the state. It also develops and implements traffic safety programs and offers 24-hour emergency services in case of road accidents with the aid of patrol officers.
