You don't hand a pair of Birkenstocks to just anyone for repair. I talked to many people before bringing mine in to Dan's to have the soles replaced. Dan showed me the genuine Birkenstock EVA sole material with Birk embossed on it, explaining that the sheet he had was slightly thicker than my newish Birks.



My old friends (the Birks) looked great. Dan cut the soles perfectly, without touching the cork. He polyurethaned the edge of the cork, glued the suede footbed where it had begun to come loose and cleaned the upper leather. They looked great, but how wold they wear? It didn't take me long to find out - every time I look for a pair to slip on (I rotate 3 pair for everyday) the repaired ones are what I put on. I guess I'll have to get my oldest pair resoled. The current 2015 price, everywhere that they have genuine Birkenstock EVA, is $45.00. But they still feel like my old friends. Oddly, the oldest pair feel kind of run down; but my newest everyday pair aren't as comfortable yet.



We've been fortunate to have had three shoe services within 8 miles of our home for the past 45 years. I used one in Stowe, PA for years, while I worked in Pottstown. When they closed I began going to Dan's brother's shoe repair on 23rd street.
