Catherine "Caty" Cundy, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in Redding, California. Caty received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from California State University in Chico in 1992. After a successful career as the owner of Redding's iconic Wild Iris Custom Swimwear (read her blog) she made a life changing decision to return to graduate school and pursue her dream of becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist. She graduated from National University in 2009 and completed her required 3000 hour internship under the supervision of well known Redding therapist, Dr. Patricia Bay. Before working with Dr. Bay she worked in a non-profit agency serving a diverse population. Caty is continually expanding her therapeutic skills and knowledge by completing several post-graduate trainings. For her complete resume click here. Caty incorporates several theoretical paradigms in her work but has come to believe that the core to effective therapy is a strong and trusting relationship between therapist and client.. Within this working relationship the client can explore deeper issues and learn new ways of coping, living more abundantly and peacefully. She believes that people have within them the ability to heal but that finding that inner power is sometimes limited by trauma, grief, stress, and dysfunctional coping skills. She utilizes a Person Centered approach to help her clients find their inner truth. Through unconditional positive regard Caty helps guide her clients in self discovery and healing. She is also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR which assist clients in changing core self beliefs that are keeping them stuck in dysfunctional patterns of behavior. Caty has lived in Northern California for her entire life and has made Redding her home for the past 18 years. She is married and has two active and beautiful children! She is also committed to public service and her community. She is a past graduate of Leadership Redding. She is a member of the Redding Chapter of Marriage and Family Therapists where in 2011 she was named Leader of the Year. Caty also serves on the Leadership Redding Steering Committee. Caty has many outside interests including visiting her families working cattle ranch in Surprise Valley, California. She also is an aspiring artist, crafter and seamstress. One of her 2012 goals is to learn how to play the guitar which was a childhood dream.
