I have had custody of my 5th grandchild since he was (a one year old.) Some kind of epidemic going around - So many grandparents raising their grandchildren!!
When David was placed with me he had "NO" self esteem. He was physically sick and very tiny for his age.
I started my grandson in Kenpo when he was three years old, to help him build up his self confidence.
He was a purple belt when I changed him over to Redding Jujitsu Academy in December of 2006. David started off having to earn his gi and his belts, etc. He never complained about it.
I love having him in Jujitsu. The Kenpo classes were 45 minutes long. By the time my grandchild was warmed up, it was time to go home. At RJA David came out of his shell, so to speak, and is now a Senior Green Belt. He assists Professor Sheryl with the pee wees and is really happy working with children & beginners. Hopefully, he will test for his Brown belt after the AJJF Convention in April. He has been a Senior Green Belt for 3 years. That is the longest he has stayed in any color belt.
I have seen David grow into a caring, unselfish, hard working, polite, responsible, drug free teenager. He is 16 years old now and I do not think he would be the person he is, had it not been for Professor Sheryl Hager & his Jujitsu Family. I can never express my gratitude enough to Professor Hager, the other professors and the sensei's (that have taught David and are still teaching him.)
I totally feel David has a shot at a great life now. I hear nothing but good things from other parents.
My thanks to all the people that take their time to teach our young people. There are so many children, these days, getting into trouble!!!
These Instructors do NOT get paid for instructing.....They do it because they care....
