Marco Antonio became Oscar Zagal in 1985 after protesters set fire to the city hall in his native Mexico City, destroying all written birth records. Since then, Zagal has founded his namesake company Zagal Imaging Creative and has gone on to gain international acclaim for his award winning documentary photography in Africa and Havana, Cuba. Zagal balances his documentary style with stylistic portraiture and extensive editorial work. From indie bands of the Latin Rock movement to celebrity clientele like Heidi Klum, Francesco Quinn, Shwayze, and Ozzy Osbourne, Zagal produces striking renderings of his diverse subjects with a stylized, often animated realism. Zagal has created editorial, lifestyle, and off-figure commercial images for Sports Illustrated, USA Today, LA Weekly, Malibu Times, and Chef’d, among others. A full-time photographer since 2005, he currently lives in Los Angeles with his family and their new puppy, Woody.
