Provided by YP.comHeart to Hand is a school for children ages 2½ to 6. Dedicated to the Waldorf educational philosophy, we strive to create a haven of warmth and safety where each young student is accepted and nurtured. We cherish the individuality of each child’s unique emotional, physical, and cognitive development. We foster imagination and exploration that stimulates not only the intellect, but also will and feeling. Our curriculum develops each child’s powers of concentration, ability to form compassionate relationships, and passion for experimentation and discovery learning.
Children are supported by experiencing a daily and a weekly rhythm that nurtures the whole child through assimilative learning. The daily rhythm is characterized by caring interaction that includes both outdoor and indoor imaginative play, circle times of song and storytelling, and family-style meal and snack times. Each day also includes at least one special activity that is always enjoyed on that same day every week. Depending upon the age group and season, this weekly rhythm may include such activities as gardening, wood working, beeswax modeling, wet-on-wet watercoloring, drawing with block crayons, walks to nearby Manzanita Park, and food preparation (soup & biscuits).
Each adult in the classroom is very conscious of serving as a model for the students. Young children absorb and imitate our words, actions, attitudes, and unconscious mannerisms. Being a teacher bears with it the imposing responsibility of being worthy of imitation. To this end, we as teachers encourage one another to become increasingly open, aware, and inwardly peaceful so that we may engage the world in a manner similar to the young child – not from our heads alone, but from our hearts and our hands, our emotions and our senses.

Provided by YP.comThis school is healing for children who have been a product of the WCSD and the schools encourages the child's individual path. The teachers are honored to work with the children and embody the role of teacher, coach and nurturer. I highly recommend this school, the administration, teachers, parents and students are all amazing and very loving.

Provided by YP.comIf you support the Waldorf teaching philosophy, Heart to Hand is THE choice (I encourage you to research)!!! I believe H2H is the MOST AMAZING childcare program in Reno! We found Heart to Hand by accident. I was desperate for help (I had been injured, needed help with my 3yr old daughter). I met a mother at a play facility and she suggested H2H. What we found was more than we could have ever wished for. The teachers are fantastic! The staff amazing! We were welcomed with open arms! SIMPLY stated, it's an alternative approach to the standard childcare facility... you have to be opened to the experience. The toys are natural. The facility is simple (no bells and whistles, as you see in many of the "newer facilities"). The focus is on the community (sharing, working together). It is more play based. Environmentally friendly (a definite plus, in my opinion). I believe in the experience. I have come to embrace the Waldorf teachings full heartedly. Our daughter flourished in the short time she attended Heart to Hand. The academics are taught differently than what I'm accustomed but that is what I absolutely love... It provides our home with an amazing balance. We had to relocate to San Diego for the summer, I can't wait to be back in Reno so she can attend H2H. Currently, she is in an exclusive school in Carlsbad, CA, the tuition is twice as much, she is always sick and dislikes going to school. no joke, daily she asks to go back to her Reno school (where she was never sick)!!! Her desire to attend her "Reno school" speaks volumes. I'm on a wait list for a Waldorf school in So. Cal, it is a 30min drive w/out traffic. Reno, take advantage of what's in your back yard. You will be giving your child and the community the gift of a whole individual!!!

Provided by YP.comBoth my girls (6.5 and 2 y.o.) are at Heart to Hand. I'm so relieved to have found this school. When I moved to Reno, I didn't know what to expect as far as finding a community and a nurturing place for my children. Heart to Hand School has exceeded my expectations in so many ways. For example, my toddler had a temporary dietary restriction of no gluten and the faculty and staff were more than willing to accommodate-- they creatively and graciously changed some of the group snacks. It really eased my stress at a time when I was learning about gluten free myself for the first time. I've also been so pleased with my older daughter's experience. Her main teacher is just a perfect match for her. She is so kind and genuinely loving. Moreover, she really has taken the time to get to know and understand my daughter, which has really had a positive influence on my daughter's experience this year. I could go on and on-- obviously-- but I highly recommend Heart to Hand!

Provided by YP.comAfter my decision to return to work full time, we enrolled my daughter at Heart to Hand school. She will be beginning her 4th year in the Kindergarten program. She has thrived here, and the joy on her face when we arrive at school every morning sets my mind at ease. Not only is she encouraged to use her imagination and develop her sense of self, but she also learns every day how to be a part of a community. This is modeled to her through her teachers, friends, and other parents who are involved in our school.

Provided by YP.comHeart to Hand is more than a school for my two children. It is a place where we have found a community of friends and teachers with whom we share a passion for healthy growth in an environment that preserves the children's innocence, accentuates their creativity and imagination, and inspires a profound reverence for human kind and nature. We embarked on this journey three years ago after informing ourselves about Waldorf education. We are confident that this unique and holistic educational approach is what our children need. I often think and have heard from other parents at Heart to Hand how lucky our children are for being immersed in such a magical and unique program. Many have said that they wish they had had the opportunity to attend a Waldorf school themselves. Everyday I witness how creative and imaginative my daughters have become. They often play and invent or retell stories and songs using simple objects (silks, rocks, wood, water, leaves and soil) both indoors as well as outdoors. We as parents are committed to help and guide our children to develop their full potential in life and face the world with an open mind and heart. This school and i'ts community are without a doubt our best allies to achieve this priceless goal. I am very excited about the 1st grade that is beginning this fall.

Provided by YPmobileMy son is new to the kindergarten class(4.5) years old. I am so excited to see him come home tired fr playing outside, playing inside, being a kid. He loves his teachers and new friends. We participated in the spring festival last week where kids, parents, grandparents and teachers beautified the playyard with flowers galore! Truly a treat for the whole family to ring in spring!

Provided by YP.comUnfortunately, I had hoped that this school would deliver on all that it website states and Waldorf beliefs. This was so unttrue though. We enrolled our son there and were promised many things. What they did not tell us though was that two of their teachers were leaving and they had no new teachers hired yet. They were also having financial difficulites and combining classes and increasing class sizes. Then we find out that they may or may not have a summer program. In looking for a preschool it is so important to have considency with children. The totally misrepresented themselves to us. Then we get an email (not in person or even a phone call) that they could no longer take care of our son. No notice at all.
The reason... teacher class size was being consolidated with younger children (3-4 year olds) and they were going to take babies and toddlers in to make ends meet. Teacher said that the new kid had to go. All for money! Hard to believe that they would do that to a young child. He is 5 years old. This is what they told us and it doesn't even make sense. Apparantly there is a demand in Reno for daycare of babies and they want to accomadate that market. So please beware if you are considering this school and make sure and get all the facts up front.
They talk commnunity but do not practice it. Too bad.
