Don't ever bring your bird to Dr. VanDemark!!! My bird just died after being told yesterday that she had too much medication and was just a little tipsy. I was concerned that she was in pain and was dying. He said, "No, she's just a little drunk." Less than 24 hours later she is dead and suffered needlessly. Never mind that the medication was prescribed by him and given exactly according to his orders! He is completely Incompetent. Don't Ever bring your Birds to him!!!!!

I've been bringing my animals here for thirteen years. I drive across the river, 35 miles, one way, because I know they're the best vets in the Hudson Valley. They have a relatively large facility in the heart of Rhinebeck Village. What impresses me most is the compassionate, caring, friendly vets and staff. They're so sweet and gentle to your animals and take such great care of them. The number one thing that impresses me the most is that their veterinarians are highly educated at some of the best vet schools in the entire country (Cornell School of Animal Medicine and U.C. Davis). I never take chances on my pets' care, so I trust them completely. Their knowledge is second to none, and if they don't know the answer, they'll refer you to someone who does. They also continue their education and learn about advances in veterinary medicine. They're slightly pricey, but I think that's because you're really paying for their lengthy expertise (and the rents there must also be expensive). I hope they put in automatic doors one day, it's very difficult carting large animal carriers through their heavy front door!
