Established in 1968, Newport Timber is an independent company that offers a range of services, including the purchasing of timber, leasing of pre-merchantable pine plantation and forest stewardship planning. It is responsible for the conservation of soil, air and water quality, as well as protects wildlife and fish habitat. The company purchases pine pulpwood, chip-n-saw and sawtimber from private landowners throughout South Georgia and South Carolina. Newport Timber also offers land management and reforestation planning services for private landowners. It is a part of Interstate Resources, which operates several paper and timber mills, corrugated container facilities and sheet plants in the East. Interstate Resources has various manufacturing facilities in Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia and New Jersey. It is comprised of more than 900 people and has a capacity of over 320,000 tons of linerboard. The company also exports paper to Canada, South America, Asia, Africa and Europe.
