I ordered my food on a Saturday night as I had eaten there before. Usually I go and pick-up my order, but I was at work and went ahead and asked for it to be delivered. At the beginning of my order I asked if they took American Express just to be certain and was told yes, but they would swipe my card when they arrived through a new system they had gotten. Thinking how awesome that was I said great! The delivery arrived and the guy swiped my card. He then told me it declined and tried it again and again. He tried it a total of fours times. I looked on my account and at that point my balance had dropped over $120.00!! The charge had authorized my card all four times that he swiped it! I showed the delivery guy my account and he did not know what to say. He said the system had been having a lot of glitches, but he had to take the pizza back because I had no other form of payment. After he left I called the store and simply asked to cancel the order and told a manager on duty what had occurred. He told me he understood and apologized and that my money should be back by Monday. Well Monday came and went so I called back Tuesday and the owner answered. He then informed me he had lost the $32.00 and that I owed him that amount since I cancelled the order and then he would call American Express and have them put my money back. I refused at which point he blabbed on about how hard it is being an independent business and that he would do nothing until I paid him. He was being very rude the entire conversation and then all of a sudden changed his attitude and contracted himself. He said that American Express would take 7 days to put the money back no matter what earlier in the discussion. Then he changed the story and told me if I gave him my card number he could call them and get the money put back instantly. I contacted American Express and they told me that he was lying. Suffice to say this was a terrible experience and as I work at the front desk of a huge hotel in the town, he will lose a lot of business. I used to recommend East of Chicago Pizza and now I will warn customers away from the place completely. Not a smart decision on his part.
